Back before GSP/Hendricks, I was wondering why Rigg's team would refuse this process. And why GSP was so angry. Now I understand.

The list of banned substances is HUGE:
http://vada-testing.org/forms/vadaprohibitedlistver8-12-13.pdf

Want to take a diuretic for other reasons (not to mask)? Sorry, not allowed.
LOL, even ephedrine is banned. I know people who have used that stuff.
It's like assuming that the guy burning incense next door is smoking weed the whole time...

Want to take a corticosteroid because of a training injury? Sorry, not allowed.
Even hydrocortisone and prednisone are not allowed!

Want to take a stimulant to help get through training sessions? Sorry, not allowed.
There are OTC energy drinks that have stuff in them!

Want to take a pain killer because the soreness of training 3x/day if killing you? Not allowed.
None of the easy-to-get narcotics is allowed. I bet all of us have taken them.

Pretty crazy what being a "clean" athlete involves these days.
I know we all think of anabolic roids when we talk about this, but the banned substance list goes WAY beyond that. (which is why I'm a little bit that the report regarding Jake Shields's suspension was never released)

GSP was living like a monk and training for the Rigg fight. A simple pulled muscle could be a setback. A bad night of sleep could be a problem.
Hendricks could have taken stimulants, diuretics, and gotten a cortisone shot.

yup all wada tested athletes have to go through that. Also, the NSAC, CSAC and pretty much all other US commissions also use this list as the guidelines.

Is it any different that the WADA in-competition list?

VADA is a testing organization that adheres to the WADA standards. WADA is nothing but a set of standards for testing. It spells out exactly what is required of the athletes, the labs and the organizations handling the testing as well as the full list of banned substances.

VADA follows the rules as they are set by WADA, so yes, VADA testing is the same as WADA testing because they use the WADA rules.

No Corticosteroids? Wow...they're used to prevent inflammation and are found just about everywhere (asthma inhalers for example)

Right, I understand that. My point was just that, if this is the same list as WADA's in-competition list, is it any different that the enhanced NSAC testing that Hendricks proposed?

Edit: Nope, I'm dumb. If this list would apply throughout the process, rather than just the day of, it would be way more extensive.

All glucocorticoids are prohibited when administered by oral, intravenous, intramuscular or rectal routes.

Could be. I haven't compared the two.

The banned substances may be different from the substances they can test for. They can ban a substance without being able to test for it (i.e. new "designer" PEDs and masking agents that they know about but cannot yet test for). NSAC having stricter testing than WADA/VADA would be surprising.

NSAC follows WADA protocols and uses the WADA lab in Salt Lake City, I think. Hendricks team proposed some sort of "enhanced" testing through NSAC using WADA protocols and the Salt Lake City lab, but I don't know what that "enhanced" testing would have entailed.

Yeah I was under the impression the only thing that made VADA more "difficult" was the random and frequent aspect of it.

They cause long term damage and are a short term "solution". It only works for brief time frame and then things get much worse. Big pharma really owns FDA. Corporate corruption of the government agencies has been at all time high last decades.

I had some serious health issues a couple years ago and was put on a high dose of prednisone for about 6 months, and then weening off it took another 2-3 months. I gained a ton of weight, had the huge steroid "moon face" and my back was covered in acne. I was probably off it for at least 3 months before I slowly started to feel normal again.

Those same things are banned by every organization duiretics are banned period also because you can use them to lose weight and ephedrine is also banned under any rules

Yep that's 100% true and nonetheless this compound has multiple classes that physicians prescribe left and right. So it being tested by VADA seems fruitless. The fighter would have to be very conscious with what he'd be taking and perhaps even remind his physician. I'm assuming the more common nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are allowed.

Got to know what your taking. Some things like Ephedrine can be ingested with certain over the counter medicines like Bronkaid

That's fucking ridiculous. No over the counter pain killers? No pre workout stimulants? Fuck, you might as well add caffeine to the list. That's fucking absurd.
