Social The University of California System Is Being Sued By Students Who Think The SAT And ACT Are Racist

And they have support from certain "minorities groups" in California claiming that the tests are favorable to White students while "discriminatory to disadvantaged students of color".

I'm gonna go ahead and assume that if the lawsuit does go forward, there is no plan for the anti-standardized exams activists to call the disadvantaged Asian-American students who actually study and do well on the SAT/ACT anyway to the Minorities witness stand.

As a Californian who is disgusted with the progressively dumbing-down in academia and a nation-wide epidemic of artificially-inflated grades by school administrators to boost High School graduation rates by cooking the books, I would like to invite the Compton school district and their supporters to fuck off with that shit.

As it stand, standardized college exams like the SAT and ACT might be the only thing left to separate fake high school GPAs from real ones.

UPDATE:

Asians do better than whites so this is racist against whites and blacks!!!

I think kids should compete against people who had the same or similar opportunities. They can have their fancy school districts, but perhaps democrats could focus on removing the incentive to do so. Say, only the top 10% from each funding district would be eligible to go to university.

The Top 9% of all California students - as well as an additional 9% of California's High School graduates of their class - are guaranteed admission to an UC campus, namely UC Merced.

If you want to attend one of the more well-known schools however (UCLA, etc), prepare for battle, for there are over 100,000 applications every year, not just from CA High School graduates but also from out of states as well.

It does not matter what it is as long as the test is fair the Asian students will find a way. And that is the problem these people want a unfair playing field.

Please refrain from polluting our grown-up discussion threads with your utterly-worthless "contributions".

Thanks.

No we suck at picking fruit, still, despite a billion Mexicans :(

The argument held some merit immediately after desegregation. Which of course liberals handled by lowering standards across the board from when America had one of the best public education systems in the world. Because in their mind black students could never be expected to actually start catching up in the states that had segregation, which mind, you, were a minority. Segregation, like slavery, only existed in certain states and districts, not the entire country.

But the same argument now is that these tests are unfair and culturally biased despite the students growing up in the same neighborhoods and attending the same schools and having been taught the same curriculum their entire lives. It doesn't hold any weight. Much like the argument for the past 3 decades about firefighter exams being somehow unfair.

De Blasio and progressives wanting to ending the testing for specialized schools is the perfect example. NY is heavily diverse and yet because black students do poorly for the most part, even attending the same schools as everyone else, it has to be racist and unfair. And you'll see some Sheila Jackson Lee type serving as the spokesperson for these morons.

whats unfair about these firefighter exams ?

"Stupid kids deserve the same breaks as white kids"

-Progressive left.

Hmmmm...address the problems with ghetto culture and parents not helping their kids with education?

Nah, lower the standards and expectations.

Blacks don't do as well as others. That's what is unfair. There is never any specific reasons for how these tests are racist. Just that blacks don't do as well.

the globalists who run white liberalism know what they are doing.

this is how you destroy and nation and culture.

we gotta fight back some how

Every one of your posts is the same, regardless of the thread topic. Keep fighting the globalists by posting here, you're sure to change things!

I don’t see the problem with lowering the bar.

Are you trying to say you don’t want little Tyrone to grow up performing emergency surgeries on people? How dare you.

whats in those tests that is truly difficult for an average blackman. i mean were just talking firefighters here.

is it rather they have lowered the requirements to ensure more unqualified balcks make the grade instead of the more qualified ones who want to be firemen.

something doesnt gel here.

They have lowered the standards of the tests for decades, but still black applicants do significantly worse than others. Like I said, there is never any specific examples given of how a test is racist, but judges continually rule in their favor and award them money and senior positions in fire departments.

Just like the specialized secondary school tests in NYC they are soon going to abolish because blacks don't do as well. You got generations raised in the same neighborhoods and attended the same schools, were taught the same curriculum, yet black folks don't so as well, so the test has to be biased and racist. That's the argument.

There is a lot of stuff written about it if you look into it. Like I said, it's been issue for decades.

Like many colleges nationwide, University of California schools had already made the SAT and ACT optional for this year’s applicants, after testing dates were disrupted by the pandemic. Both companies have announced that they will introduce an online testing option for the first time in the fall.

On Thursday, the California system’s governing board voted unanimously to extend that optional period for another year, and then not consider scores for two years when determining whether to accept in-state applicants, using standardized tests only to award scholarships, determine course placement and assess out-of-state students.

In the University of California system, standardized test scores are just one component of a complex admissions formula, which includes more than a dozen metrics, including high school grade point averages. The state guarantees acceptance to the top 12.5 percent of California high school students.

But as California has struggled to maintain campus diversity since voters passed a 1996 ban on affirmative action, pressure has grown for the school system to take action. Its top campuses have become almost as difficult to get into as some Ivy League schools and are demographically dominated by white and Asian students.

For the last 20 years, black enrollment at University of California schools has scarcely broken 4 percent, though African-Americans represent 6.5 percent of the state’s population. Nearly 40 percent of the state is Hispanic, California’s largest ethnic group, but only 22 percent of students in the school system are.
