I know nobody like to watch him fight as his fights will put you to sleep or make you change the channel until his fight is over but do they remember who he has beaten?

Lyoto Machida (he really didn't), Alexander Gustaffson, and Glover Teixeria.

What if Machida or Gus win a title? Bellator will have a fighter who has beaten a current UFC champ. As of right now, they have a fighter who has beaten current top 3 fighters in two of their divisions.

Now Phil Davis will be fighting cans and look "amazing" and they will build him up like crazy. Bellator can hype up Phil Davis like crazy.

And it's not like he's even lost in the UFC by knockout so the UFC can't give the fans a free video of him getting knocked out when he fights for a title in bellator. (Remember when bellator gave the fans a video of Joe soto getting knock out the day of his title fight)

I think the UFC dropped the ball with this one.

Just because a fighter is good doesn't mean that people want to see him fight. They want entertainment, not competition.

Just like Fitch, Shields and Okami right?

Nah I think UFC made the right move. They have a huge stable of fighters and Davis just couldn't get over the hump much like Okami and Fitch. It's good if Davis can try his hand at Bellator. It doesn't mean he's gonna be there forever. He's still relatively young. If he goes there and whoops ass and becomes a champion. No doubt the UFC will offer him more if he wants to come back.

Right. I'm sure them losing Phil Davis of all people will be their undoing.

I wouldnt have let him go but good for him to get paid over at Bellator. if he can go on a win streak and get the title dont be surprised if Dana and co re-sign him

No, the UFC did just fine. Phil was only good at talking, and he was barely good at that. Once its time to fight he freezes and only wants to play grabass.

Exactly. And none of those names will ever be champion. Phil Davis good for him, go make more money. I wont bother watching, and in the end this is evidence that the UFC is not a monopsony.

And the Machida fight was close.

Davis will be absolutely terrible for Bellator's product.

Interested to see Davis/Mo, just out of sheer morbid curiosity.

They haven't beaten a current top 3 fighter in the UFC. Bellator can easily hype him coming in saying "Phil Davis...the man to give Lyoto Machida, Glover Teixeria, and Alexander Gustaffson a loss on their records". And plus, Phil Davis is a exciting fighter when he's fighting a poor wrestling defense fighter and you know it.

Why would Bellator hype up UFC fighters?

I don't see it. Any fan that would recognize those names would also know who Phil is already.

Happy for Phil having a fresh start. He was not moving forward.

Made the right move
Nobody cares about Davis

Phil Davis is a exciting fighter when he's fighting a poor wrestling defense fighter and you know it.

He's boring/one dimensional when he fights a good wrestler or a bad wrestler.

No.

They didnt release him, his contract was up and he signed somewhere else.

He's never gonna be a UFC champ, he's boring as hell and it also helps UFC lawsuit.

Another interesting aspect of all this is the current class-action lawsuit filed against the UFC by Jon Fitch and other plaintiffs. Is the UFC willing to let a few big stars here and there depart for the competition in order to prove they aren't the monopsony the lawsuit claims them to be?

Or put another way, is it better to lose stars if it helps you avoid paying out what could potentially be hundreds of millions of dollars in a future judgment? Even if losing those stars means that you're essentially helping create stronger competition?

If thats UFC's goal here then Davis is the perfect guy to let leave, he never got a title shot, he will never be champ, he's not a huge name or star. losing him really doesnt matter.

Only negative is the LHW div is so thin losing a guy who is ranked in top 10 sucks for them but its not really the end of the world.
