The UFC is trying to erase the history of Tito Ortiz

He ducked the Dana boxing match.
Pretty sure UFC 40 was the first PPV in australia.

Ken and Tito helped put it on the map

but Chuck was the guy who made casuals want to watch.

It was probably Tito I knew about him before I followed MMA him and Ken both

Tito was a star, but Chuck did become a Super Star when he beat him

Chuck vs Randy began the 1 million PPV buys era for the UFC

Tito was the sports first modern star, no question.

You had Royce and Ken who were popular in the mid 90s, but Tito was the first big star under the modern rules.

UFC has been doing this to him for years, and even more so to Ken Shamrock. These guys saved the UFC with UFC 40 and they don't even get acknowledged for it- fucking insane.

Even if you don't like a guy, his work and accomplishments deserve to be acknowledged and respected. Especially if he's the reason you still have a damn organization in the first place.

Royce was the first. Kimo was the next. Tank was the next. Tito and vitor were the next, but I might have missed a step. Chuck, Tito, and Randy all took the sport mainstream along with Dana. Chuck v tito was the reason they got the spike deal. You're welcome.
Frank Shamrock not getting any love here

Yep. Royce was a unbeatable. The fact that kimo beat him up enough that Royce couldn't continue was a huge deal. People were talking about it. It was a big enough deal, and known enough, that kimo came back years later and they stuck in a main event or two.

So I watched this thing and I thought it was aight. Pretty solid and interesting video. Chuck deserves massive hespek. But then I noticed the title: The Story of Chuck Liddell, the First UFC Superstar

{<huh}

They really did Tito just like that? Not only was he the real first UFC superstar but he also saved the company. Like twice. Chuck never did that. Chuck never fought straight outta neck surgery.
Don't get me wrong, Chuck is obviously a legend but the first UFC superstar? Nah, bud.

Do you agree with the UFC here?

tito used the injuries as a scape goat to bash dana and the ufc.

Tito was a part of it. But chuck Tito Randy vitor don't compare to Ken return at 40.
Tito was pulling 40 K buys.UFC 40 trebled it
Without Ken UFC would have folded

Tito kept it afloat in the dark ages for sure, but Chuck still kind of is the first superstar. The popularity boom came at the culmination of tuf 1. Who was main eventing the PPV after TUF 1? Randy and Chuck. Tito was one of the first larger than life personalities. But Chuck was the first truly bankable star.
Wouldn't have got to tuf without Ken return. UFC 40 was first money making ppv

I cant stand Tito but TS is right, but I think as others pointed out Shamrock was right there too, whether people like it or not.
It's pretty much known Ken's return saved UFC.
Past prime but still had draw power

Tito was never a star on the level of Chuck

Chuck was really the first mega star. He came up during the period when turf happened and they had the most exposure as well.

You could say Tito was the first star but chuck was definitely the first legitimate superstar

Fuck, they need to make more documentaries like this on old school fighters

So good

Those were really pivotal years for me

Shamrock and Tito were definitely the first.

Tito kept the UFC alive during the dark ages. He deserves respect! The man barebacked a porn star and did not get the HIV.

Tito was the original super star through his win over Ken

UFC 40 is the event, it was the turning point and Tito carried the promotion of that event
People became interested because of Ken, and the big sports shows covered it
they stayed because Tito's charisma and chemistry with Shamrock

UFC 40 is THE event

Chuck is largely built off of him
Chuck was big before Tito, but Tito put him and Randy over

That was the 1st event that i ever watched. As you just said ken initially drew my interest from WWF.

Fun fact. Robbie lawler was the 1st fight on the card. Knocking out tiki in the first round. Crazy to think he has been around that long.
