I'm watching the pilot episode and then the rest of season one with a critical eye.
I've not seen most of these since they first aired. I recall some issues... I'll try to be nice and say what's good as well as what's stupid.

So far, "Encounter at Farpoint" is rough, as most pilots are.

I'm immediately reminded of how much I hated the music, all airy synth tones. Awful. Some of these musical cues sound like they were played by a high schooler.

Introducing an omnipotent character at the five minute mark, hoo boy.

Heavy-handed. The acting isn't bad though. De Lancie is good as Q. The character needed work but.

The dialogue is full of easy homocentric enthusiasms, cliches, as is the story. But I go light on this because it has to establish a story, setting, introduce all the characters, and give them something to do.

Not the worst of them all. It simply had to accomplish too much.

Why did you end the title with 'The...?

Bad overuse of the main theme (recycled from ST the Slow Motion Picture), played in its entirety twice in fifteen minutes.

O' Brien on the bridge, huh. At the conning station next to Data.

Data is essentially a charcoal sketch of what he became.

Forgot that Deforrest Kelly had a cameo in this. Complete with tucked in bell bottoms and a thicker Georgia accent than he ever had. Fitty minutes in and we hardly know anything about the characters yet.

Been awhile but I remember Encounter at Farpoint not being THAT bad, a good amount of 80's TV clichés but the Q plot had a decent edge to it, theres much worse stuff elsewhere in the first season.

    It's borderline schlock IMO

Anyways...a stray line of dialogue indicates that Ferengi eat people.

Things created on the holodeck can exist off of it. (Water on people)

Riker always looks like the cat that ate the canary.

    Data smiles broadly.

It's kind of fun watching this

I may have to avoid this thread. I get the feeling you are going to rip to shreds the entire series and that will only trigger me. I know the issues but still have many fond memories.

We all know they had issues. My father was a HUGE trek fan and stopped watching Trek for almost 3 decades because of TNG. He thought Picard "gave up" to much. I hated that the Ent-d was such a paper tiger, constantly struggling to fend off attackers and not having any punch.

That said, I still enjoyed the shit out of it.

I don't want to rewatch this series because I don't want to remember how rough the first few seasons are.

In my memory it's all golden.

I can't for the life of me understand why they ditched the male characters in dresses after the pilot episode.

That was a short-lived fashion statement.
