You know stuff like RATT and Motley Crue and Iron Maiden and Def Leppard.

In the early 80s it was great.

But this song single handedly ruined the genre and totally pussified it.

^ then it went to every band trying to do some pussy ass ballad shit.

MC used to be good and did this:

Def Leppard used to be this

then went to this

This song and Return of the Jedi ruined how cool the early 80s was and replaced it with cheese

PS the only good ballad ever is by GWAR

+1 for GWAR

I must have got into GWAR in like 88. Georgia Tech radio used to play punk one night a week. I'm in Love with a Dead Dog came on and I was an instant fan.

I still listen to Hell-o and Scumdogs once ever week or two.
American Must be Destroyed only really has Have You Seen Me (hilarious and great) and the long road behind... and i guess Gor Gor.

But give me some Love Surgery and Sexecutioner and Slutman City

I remember this exact same thread from a couple of years ago…. Was that you too, TS?

P.S. much love, GWAR rule

I don’t agree about AMBD, though…. It’s awesome from start to finish

Metal still is, and always has been awesome.

One sappy song doesn't change that.

RIP Dave Brockie.

Nah. That was actually a good song. It was just overplayed. I agree that it was such a big hit that it influenced other bands to emulate, but there were way worse songs we can point to. I won't even dignify them by bringing them up. Motley Crue was fucking awesome. They could literally do no wrong at the time. I still fucking love them, but yeah, their earlier stuff was the best.

The Crue lost their way with Home Sweet Home but brought it back with this gem.

Whether it was a good song or not is in a way irrelevant...it was that it shifted the whole genre into making all these pussy ballads.
I think getting into punk and metallica in 86 killed any desire I had to listen to hair metal.

Hell-O is my favorite by far. Scumdogs is great except a couple songs in the beginning. AMBD is meh...although Have You Seen Me might be their best video and a great song.

Mommies, I've been stealing your babies I gag the brat and then maybe...
I'll suck out his brain
You know... Dead kids, they're making me feel almost hard
Go get one from the school yard
He bled like a stuck pig
^ fucking fantastic.

I had the video tape with this on it and in HS we had a video class which was pretty much how to use Video Toaster and I was watchign have you seen me video with oderus jizzing all over some kid's serial before killing him in the shitter and the teacher says to me "I don't think you should be watching that here"
I was like "but its GWAR" and kept watching it.

when i aw the title i was absolutely certain it would be about this atrocious song

Paul Gilbert on guitar, so no...

Grunge and Alt-Rock killed Hair Metal. It wasn't a shitty song or overhyped band. Hair metal was a fad. [/end thread]

yeah, it was a fad. and that's why grunge/alt didn't kill it, it suicided.

I don't get the Pour Some Sugar on Me example.
For one, I love that song. It's not really a ballad. It's the biggest hit on one of the best-selling albums of all time.
Stylistically it's not jarringly different from other stuff they put out. It has a different structure, but it's got a similar attitude and tone.

Not sure where that song fits in supporting your argument.
