Can anyone help me make sense of what happened? I just cant see what hurt him there.

Barbarena lands a short right hand uppercut while they are on their way up, but that wasnt it. Jake barely reacts to it.

Then, he throws another right hand, but that lands to the side of the head with barely enough power to ko anyone. Looks like a lot of what caught jakes head was barberena forearm tbh, the shot it shelf at best, grazed. And jake goes down.
    <{vega}>

Even barberina looks surprised for a second there

A gust of wind passed through the arena at an unexpected angle.

Jake wanted out. He's done and he knows it. That's why he finally retired.

It doesn't make lots of sense if you watch the gif alone, because you won't see all the damage he already ate. He got already dropped and hurt bad before that.

I think he just didn't see it coming so it rocked him.

He was rocked way before that and then that overhand onto the top of his head discombobulated him. Elllenburger can take shots anymore.

Wasn't Ellenberger the guy who was almost dieded by Perry? Should've retired after that fight, that shit was scary.

Jake is a sad tale. His career went downhill after that one-sided Rory fight (unlike Tyron, who absorbed a one-sided Rory fight). His resume and record before that were impressive. He was a 13-year vet with some big wins, good skills, and real power - who should have retired about 3 years ago when his chin failed him.

    1. A career of punches to the head eventually makes that off button a lot easier to press down, he reached that point some time ago.
    2. Side of the head is sensitive, knocks out your equilibrium.

You can see his neck turnt pretty good on that short shot.

Regardless, the guy hasn't been able to take a shot in years. Probably too many gym wars and now his body just goes into flight.

Should have retired after the Lawler fight.

I thought he’d have something, even a little bit in the tank left... Nah, he’s done and his chin is completely shattered.

    Retirement is the next step.

True, but he still looks like he could go on.

If you notice, while jake is going down, you can see him use his arm to avoid crashing on the floor, then insta-turtle with decent posture. If he still had his wits enough to do that, he couldnt be that out of his own.

    I didnt want to open the thread like this, but pretty much. Looked really bad. Glad he retired. If you are coming in just to cash a check, {<buffer}

I though maybe there was something i didnt catch in that sequence, but i guess not.

I see a few scenarios; his equilibrium was thrown off, he was mentally broken, his knee gave out.. whichever, or all of the above, he decided to just find a way out of the fight, sad end for a guy who used to be a hell of a fighter
