Why is it impossible? What makes it impossible? This is infuriating because I keep seeing this drivel all over the internet about this damn fucking window that cannot exist. Yet nothing explains why it cannot exist. Just that it's impossible. Well what the fuck does that mean? Can somebody explain this to me?

Basically if you were to recreate the hotel from everything you see in the film, there is no way there could be a window back there which gives a view to the outside.

If you watch the film room 237 it goes in a lot more detail.

I recently watched that which is part of why I'm making this thread. There was a lady on Room 237 talking about the window and it showed this chart which I couldn't see at all or make anything out of. And she never said why it's impossible in her own words.

What do you mean there is no way there could be a window back there? Do you mean the office is in the middle of the hotel or something? Or that the window doesn't match exterior windows shown from the outside of the hotel? I can't find a simple explanation for what everybody is talking about.

The office is in the middle of the hotel, and when they show what's next to and behind the office, there should be a wall back there.

Ok she does actually say the office gives the impression that it's in the middle of the hotel. I missed that part earlier. And on this video I can actually make out the chart they are showing. So I think I get it about the window now.

I think most of that Room 237 stuff is complete nonsense. They're looking way too hard to find things that probably aren't there. But stuff like this window and little things like that, I can believe Kubrick probably did plant those things there to create a sense of something being off in the viewers subconscious.

They were saying that Kubrick had been reading a lot about subliminal advertising prior to making this, and I'd like to believe that's true. I want to believe. But then again they say his iq was 200, and looking into that just a little bit it seems that his iq was in actuality nowhere near that high. I still believe the man was intelligent and extremely complex. Most likely highly ocd. And that makes for interesting movies certainly.

The thing about films though, especially with a control freak like Kubrick, is that nothing which ends up in it is a mistake/accident/coincidence, etc. everything that was in it was by design. Do the things mean what the people in the documentary claim though? Maybe, maybe not; probably only stan himself could answer that, but he definitely layered his movies with lots of very interesting hidden messages.

How does Jack Nicholson talk to the ghostsin the shining? Is he already dead? What about his family, are they dead too? Or is he just imaging all of it? Sorry, haven't seen the movie in years.

The window in that office faces the garden maze on the bottom floor.
Come on people this is not rocket science!

Most of camera footage of the hotel is shot from the west wing, near the guest rooms. Not near the office.
People are forgetting how big this hotel is.

Kubrick had no reason to include more footage of the office location after that particular scene because it was irrelevant to the story and pacing.

I agree but that kind of control about everything being in there on purpose has it's limits. I saw in that documentary about the food cans in the pantry having significance because there was an indian on the label. But there is an interview with one of the camera men or somebody that worked on the crew, and he said that those cans were all chosen simply because of their colors.

I've actually never watched the entire movie in 1 sitting. But I've seen most of it, just in bits and pieces over the years. I never understood what was meant by Jack being in the old photo from 1921 at the end.

Oh ya, I forgot about that. I thought that was because he was in hell. Or stuck in purgatory (the hotel). Idk, like you, Ive only watched bits and pieces. I'll have to sit down and watch this film someday.

That's an interesting thought about him being in hell or purgatory. That would make Lloyd the bartender the devil possibly.

I do want to sit down and really watch and study this movie one day. I will need a big bag of weed to do it properly.

The only part of the room 237 or whatever that made any sense was the indian thing. I would say the india cans were chosen because they had an indian on them, the hotel has indian art in it and was built on an indian burial ground so there is some reasonable thought that the cans were picked for that reason.

Also, just to mention, every time Jack talks to a "ghost" there is a mirror in the room. BOOM.

More freaky shit about that movie then. Good.

Good observation. So do you think Jack just went nuts and there was no ghost?

Kubrick was apparently big on the use of mirrors. He used one on the movie poster for Eyes Wide Shut.

And that movie is chocked full of all kinds of crazy symbolism.

Underrated movie, in my opinion. Excellent combination of mystery, intrigue, and suspense, with a healthy sprinkling of eroticism.

I don't know. I think I got that off of one of this guy's videos but not sure which one. He has done the best vids on the shining i think

^ better than room 237 if you want to see some shit on symbolism in the shining

I found this interesting. 5 conspiracy theories about The Shining that werent in Room 237

From the article: was there something in the river of blood? It does kind of look like theres a figure in there. Or maybe a typewriter?

I watched a video where they analyzed this. It turns out it's just an odd reflection of the room. As the blood flow becomes steady, the reflection becomes more clear, which give the illusion of something materializing, or emerging.

They replicated the effect with some 3D modeling software.

I watched that one on spatial awareness earlier and it was good. I haven't seen the other videos yet so thank you for posting those.
