How quickly we forget how dominant a run that Renan Barao had before his fight with TJ and how quickly we forget that he had a whole month less of training to prepare for that fight with Dillashaw. I

because he just got dominated, basically, tj's win didnt count

I agree with you 100%.

How quickly you forget that Dillashaw had a month shorter training camp as well.

Its sherdog logic, whoever is winning at the moment is unstoppable and whoever just lost was never that good and is a can. Smdh

Nobody forgot anything, it's just a simple case of him getting dominated and there being no justification for an immediate rematch. I'm actually interested in seeing the rematch, but it doesn't change the fact that Renan got dominated and should have had to win another fight or two before a rematch. And make no mistake about it, this rematch is not about anything Renan had accomplished. It's about the UFC thinking it will sell better than Dillashaw/Assuncao.

Excellent post TS.

Anyway, the only reason I opposed the immediate rematch initially was because the way Dillashaw dominated made me think that he just has Barao's number or at the very least, that night he definitely did. I don't have an issue with Barao getting a rematch but I thought that Barao taking this rematch so soon could end up hurting him in the long run if he doesn't win this time around because we all know what happens when a fighter loses 2 in a row to the champion, they get relocated to a Rich Franklin/Ben Henderson position.

I think Barao has all the tools in the world to defeat Dillashaw but I also think he needed more time to analyze his mistakes and work on the errors from the first fight.
I never discredited Barao after he lost, he's still clearly a ridiculous beast not only in the bantamweight division but in MMA as a whole. I just hope that in accepting this immediate rematch he accepts the possibility that if he loses he would be in a worse situation than if he would have waited and fought some other top guys (that way he has more time to study Dillashaw and himself).

TJ was booked to fight Takeya on that card, on Febuary 26/27th or some shit, Barao stepped in a month later so TJ had been training a month.

Had to change what he was doing? Sure. But had more time to prepare none the less, that's not really the point though. That factors into it sure.

But a guy who didn't deserve the title shot but got it out of circumstance, who dominates the champion who had one bad night since 2005. How is it fair to say that TJ deserved that fight after literally beating Easton, that's it. While Barao after all he's done doesn't deserve it after one loss?

It's foolish to me and doesn't make any sense. Barao did TJ and the UFC a favor by stepping up on short notice, so TJ and the UFC can do Barao a favor by giving him a rematch if he wants it.

What sad story? He fought, got dominated for 5 rounds and finished, and now gets a rematch.

The fact is that immediate rematches are generally BULLSHIT. This one is no exception.

It's Sherdog. Is normal.

If Barao wins the rematch everyone will say they knew the first fight was a fluke all along.

Shhh he left that part out so his argument could be better

Really, Barao doesnt deserve an immediate rematch because he got dominated plain and simple. Barao deserves to get more time to get better and fix his holes. If anything TS should be campaigning for Barao to have a comeback fight since he's using the one month less training camp as an excuse.

Barao is the #2 guy in his division. No debating that, and there is no serious person who would say Barao isnt. But TS got butt hurt because his favorite fighter isnt getting praise after getting whooped. (he actually put up a good fight and wasnt completely dominated) We all know Barao is a great fighter, him losing was just sobering. Barao's praise will be back dont worry TS

I think you almost have to have a rematch, it was a dominant victory but a rematch can either leave no shadow of a doubt or tee up an Awesome third bout. Barao is an excellent fighter and I think he'll have plenty more highlight finishes, but TJ did come out and dominate him....still a rematch would end the discussion if TJ dominates him again.

Once Barao loses again and gets demoted to the Fight Pass prelims against Mitch Gagnon, you're going to understand why we didn't want the UFC to rush this rematch.

Yeah Barao's fans really are sad cases. His 30 fight win streak is irrelevant because only a handful of the fights were for the title, if he had 30 title defenses sure, but he didn't. His first 23 wins were record padding anyway.

I'm pretty sure there are far worst fan bases on this forum than Barao's. After the TJ fight the vast majority of threads referencing Barao have been largely negative with very little defense of Barao. Troll harder.

I can only support immediate rematches if the guy gets robbed. The only thing you bring with you into the cage is your skills, and if they aren't good enough you give credit where it's due. By just handing these rematches you are basically cheating the fighters win and not accepting the result of the first fight
