Ariel believes Ronda will be such a huge superstar that she singlehandedly justifies Reebok's gamble. She will transform the entire sports apparel industry like no one has since Jordan.

Hu...no, MASSIVE if true. She isnt just the Mike Tyson of mma, she is also the Michael Jordan.

She has not only changed this sport, she has changed society forever.

She fights mostly on PPV at $55 bucks a pop.. Jordan played on NBC in front of like 30 million people..

What's funny is and there was even a thread about this,

If in the next 4-5 years some great young fighters come along and beat Ronda, it will be revisionist history about Ronda's current record.

Ariel is delusional. Rousey is very popular and will make the sport grow, but his statement is idiotic.

  9. She needs to be exposed to the public more than just on PPVs to reach that level of sales and exposure. The guy who brought NBC has a point.

Im talking about her fights. Not press and publicity.

LOL...Reebok gamble? They didn't pay that much. They seem to have more power/control than they would have over any other legit sports league they sponsor. Every single fighter, TV show ,event, weigh-in has the logo plastered everywhere. The UFC quickly fired a guy because he spoke out about the deal while Reebok didnt even seem to mind that he spoke out. They have the power to not even feature any fighters gear who critcized them.

The UFC may have gambled on this before Rousey/Conor got super huge. Maybe if they waited they could've received more money, went with Nike, ironeed out details, quelled fighter anger, etc.

I have to laugh at this. I'm a huge Ronda fan, and definitely believe she making history in MMA...but c'mon Ariel.

That's not really a large contract. James Harden was just offered 200 mill by Adidas to do some commercials and wear a shoe.

This Reebok deal is significantly smaller than that, and its for a whole company, not just one athlete.

    So I agree with him.

Edit... I agree that the contract was worth it for her, not the Jordan stuff.

hard not to be bias when your occupation depends on the continual success of mma and it's growth reflects growth in his endeavor as well but lets get serious ariel. even sherdog's most hardcore mma fans that would pay to sniff one of ronda's farts still think the apparel is garbage and have little interest in it.
ps. lets not forget "mma's biggest star" is a woman and you'd be hard pressed to find a dude that wants to wear a ronda rousey shirt even if it wasn't a disgusting piece of shit like the current ones are.

I think some of these MMA commentators and journalists have long since gotten used to being a niche sport. The sudden onslaught of mainstream attention is really going to their heads.

Except Jordan was marketing things that people already were already wearing, like shoes, underwear, t-shirts. Everyone wears that shit. Who the fuck needs to wear a matching fight kit? She will probably do better than Jordan in the sports bra market. *probably
