Rounds take a fight further away from what a real NHB fight is whether on the street or in a cage. Since they don't add legitimacy and actually take away from it (think of fighters who have been saved by the end of a round and then won) obviously they exist for entertainment value. They ensure that there will be a standup at least every five minutes and The UFC knows its fans prefer standup fighting. It also gives fighters a chance to rest so that people can see fighters operate at a high-level of intensity for more time. Rounds take away from a submission expert's chance to lock in a submission hold but again The UFC encourages stand up fighting. Rounds exist strictly for entertainment value at the expense of realism.

Time limits also heavily favour wrestling and grappling. So I think on balance grappling fans can't complain.

Which fighter sells the most merchandise.

Now this. How did you manage to sign up 6 months ago but trick the system into believing you joined in 05 ?

Don't want to read that block of shit so I'll just pretend you are against rounds in MMA - I am too, glad to agree with you TS.

No they don't. Grapplers hate time limits and time limits as well as rounds are the reason tha tRoyce Gracie left when they made time limits. BBJJ guys sometimes took hours to set up a submission in fights in Brazil.

A wrestler holds a guy down knowing that he has to hold on for 15 minutes to win. That's not a real fight

Not if there is no time limit. Besides when a wrestler holds a guy down he punches him and headbutts him if allowed. Watch Coleman fight and see if you think he's only "holding his opponent down."

Check out these rounds

Rounds exist because the commissions have retarded rules to make it less "Barbaric" and for no other reason

I feel the opposite. Ground styles need more time to find the openings to transition. Time limits hinder that.

What if rounds began where they ended before? ie 50/50 guard, standing, clinch on fence, half guard etc, put em right back.

Then blame the guy on bottom who can't get the dude off of him.

I am pretty sure the rounds had to be implemented so the sport would be sanctioned by the ac's.
