The Reason Mousasi has so many fans, or "hype," or is getting love from Zuffa

To put it simply he just comes to fight, and he fights from all positions. You can't put him in a bad position. You're not in a safe place in his guard, you can get KO'd or submitted, while looking to defend sweeps and gnp. On the feet you're looking at heavy kicks, and fast, accurate punches. If you're not a high level wrestler expect to get taken down, and his top game is devastating.

For those and many reasons, he will always have fans and supporters win or lose. Zuffa will always love him, ala Wanderlei Silva, who puts on a show every time. So haters can hate, and please do, but Mousasi is making waves in the UFC, win or lose.

Gus vs Mousasi is one of the best fights of the year. It will be a total war, so much at stake, it's not even funny.

I honestly don't think he has much hype.

I'd say he's been really under rated since the Jardine draw.

People who watched him in Japan knows how good he is. The Just Bleeds don't yet though.

well, i'm only going to speak for myself, but he had a fucking awesome couple of years a few years ago. he was young and bad ass, and was knocking out and subbing dudes left and right.

he ran into a wall named King Mo (not unlike Pettis ran into a wall called Guida), and that didn't diminish his skills in my eyes at all (for either of em). it just means they got gamed and need to do something about it. and shows a place for improvement. AND (cuz i'm not starry eyed idealist) yes, it means we should take that into account when analyzing future fights.

but it doesn't make his "suck" all of a sudden.

as it turns out, '10-'11 weren't as unreal as '07-'09 and then he was hurt for a year. will he be back in '08 form? we shall see.

and although i started by saying "i'm only going to speak for myself..." i WILL say that i think he became a victim of the classic "black & white" arguments of Sherdog. half the vocal minority think he's AWESOME and will CHALLENGE THE CHAMP, and the other half (of the vocal minority) think he SUCKS and COULDN'T EVEN BEAT JARDINE.

People love to shit on him for the King Mo and Jardine fights. I can't wait until he fights Gustafsson, he's going to shut a lot of people up.

Well he is a bad mother fucker in the making. All he needs is a badass moustache and he would be a legend already.

I've been disappointed by Mousasi a few times but I am still a fan.

Once when he said he was gonna keep it standing with Manhoef and took him down immediately. The other when he was beating King Mo and didn't have the sense of urgency to finish the fight, going on to lose a decision.

I know there are other things that don't come to mind.

Gamey guard players with intricate striking are always fun to watch. Win or lose. His style is good for both making and keeping fans.

Ya I remember he was dominant against Thierry. If memory serves me right he triangle manhoef?

The Just Bleeds don't yet though.

LOL have to agree

No, that's not it. It's that he has an aura, a mystique, that comes from good fighters who haven't had to fight anyone in the UFC yet. That should last until... April 6, 2013

mousasi is amazing. that is why he has good fans. he is underrated because many people think that takedown is a GOD, even if it leads to nothing at all.

it's really simple to be a fan of The dreamcatcher.

He's a solid fighter, but I'm never going out of my way to see him fight. He sometimes looks nonchalant if not borderline bored. I see Gus picking him apart. Hope I'm wrong and they give us a great fight.

Mou is the most underrated guy on Sherdog currently.

I saw a thread earlier on how Anderson won't have fought a world class striker until he fights him... Guy is crazy overrated by his fans, but as a whole among fight fans he is slightly underrated.

I wonder how many Sherdoggers know that Mousasi is a friend of Fedor and had an exhibition fight with him in NYC.

well put, Mousasi is the new Shogun in terms of sparking sherdog debates

I like Mousasi. He's an exciting fighter and always comes across as a nice guy. I like Wandy too, but his fans can be really irritating.

Not much hype around Mousasi honestly. I'm sure a lot of folks are counting him out for his next fight. If Mousasi beats Gus very convincingly, then the hype train will start.
