The Real Mistake UFC made with Ngannou

They let him fight for a title without getting him on a new longer contract. I doubt they ever make that mistake again.

They have to offer their fighters fights, though.

It was the same with Nate.

He told them he wasn't signing a contract, but they still had to offer him fights.

They were trying. Obviously there were things they couldn’t agree on. Ngannou wanting to box and the UFC saying no, in addition to not offering enough money to fight even if Dana says he would have been paid a boat load and kind of took a turd on Ngannou in that interview.

I just hope after Ngannou goes and boxes Wilder or Fury or whatever and makes a shit ton of money, even if he loses (which I think he will) maybe, just maybe the UFC resigns him to a deal again.

I doubt it though.

Nah, they have champions clause that extends the contract so having him be champion gave them more leverage in negotiations

You are assuming that they made a mistake.

The UFC can't force an extension..... because they have a contract.

They force extensions all the time. If you turn down a fight because you are injured, they extend the contract. If you can’t fight because they didn’t renew your visa, they extend your contract. If you turn down a fight becuase it was offered to you on ten minutes notice, they extend your contract. It’s called “tolling” and it’s written into the contract itself.

Dang.
That sucks.
Thanks for informing me.
But wow.

To be fair he was not talking about boxing and stuff. At the time he was a good company man, there was no indication he would not just be happy with more pay as champion.

You are right.

It was a unique situation, and he was not a huge draw despite his huge size.

Luckily Jones at HW fills the void.

Francis was an idiot in this one, tried to drive a hard bargain and got left in the cold. He'll be fine but he was wrong in this one.

I mean I can totally see why UFC would not let him box. The dude gassed out just trying to keep up w Gane's footwork. What u think Tyson Fury gonna do to him?
