Why is it a financial undertaking? They just need to make a belt. They can promote any fight they think will be a draw.

Sometimes I want to come into these threads to have a conversation about any Cyborg news.
However the turn into petty hate too quickly.

    They can't.

Cyborg was stripped of her 145 Strikeforce title and her division dissolved.

Rowdy was the 135 Strikeforce Champion when Strikeforce closed their doors for good.

    There is a big difference.

There just isn't enough talent at 145 to justify that. The talent pool is too shallow.

You got this wrong. Ronda is running her show. The UFC didn't get her the movie roles, or the commercials (well, not all of the commercials), she has parlayed every little piece of what has come her way into her push for superstardom. And she's done damn well at it.

True, none of this would have happened for her without her run as Champ in the UFC, and the hype that goes with it, but it is a synergistic effect and Ronda is the one driving it by hiring the correct people to acquire and handle her opportunities, and by her incredible work ethic and determination.

The people that know, the fighters, the fight people, know she is the real deal in the cage. The Hollywood people know charisma and star quality when they see it, and they also know Ronda is the real deal.

After all, she is like a mythical human!! Ask Joe!! :icon_chee

I agree with all that.I think Ronda knows what a huge risk this might be.It would be nice to watch her in a good fight. The last few fights make her look good, but seriously, the talent is not there. Those girls are too slow.A couple of the straw weights look good though,JJ and the Brazilian girl look almost like men.Good technique, and not slow and lumbering.I'm not saying Cyborg wins, but I'm sure it will be a good fight, rather than exibition style beatdowns

Well, gee, they have to bring in some fighters right? And pay them, then put them on cards.

Outside Cyborg/Rousey (or just insert anyone vs Rousey) there are no fights that would be a "draw", even on a fight night card. It would literally be fodder and might actually turn fans off watching the UFC.

Hell, the 135 lb. division is already weak, and like I said earlier if you lined up the top 10 at 135 and then at 145 and had 1 fight 1, 2 fight 2, etc. I don't think 145 even gets a win! This is a weight class UP that might not even be able to manage ONE win vs the lower weight class in this type scenario??? Why the hell invent the weight class then? The 3rd best 135 lb fighter in the world already subbed what's probably the 2nd best 145 lb fighter, and at 145 there is a big dropoff after Coenen.

People will say that "if you make the division, talent will come" which is absolute nonsense.. Most athletic women aren't 160+ lbs to warrant fighting at 145, and look at how thin 135lb division is. 135 is probably the heaviest you can go for women in UFC without it becoming laughable

why so many people disagree, makes me think they are working as UFC accountants for their dayjob

The only two other decent fighters at 145 (Coenen and Budd) are already over in Bellator. The division is dead.

Apparently Cyborg wants more money than Ronda. Good luck with that.

And people who still think the only obstruction to this fight is anyone else but Cyborg, please go watch Ken vs Kimbo. Repeatedly. A million times.

Demanding Cyborg in the UFC at least like OP says.

This is beyond a joke now. Tate Ronda 3 is the most unappealing SERIOUS rematch the UFC have now in my opinion.

I really really do not want to see this fight.

The problem is, is that Dana does not want the casuals to see Cyborg. Womens 145 lb class shouldve been addded before mens 125 lb...

But if they did make a 145 womens class and had a 145 lb TUF...Well all the casuals would then get to see Cyborgs highlights and her fighting style. And I believe many fans of Ronda would jump ship to Cyborg...A lot of people dont care what a chick looks like or what movie/magazine she is in. They want to see brutal and destructive fights, period...

For Cyborg to be a "nobody", her name sure gets brought up a lot. Look how big a name Gina was, then Cyborg destroyed her. The same thing would/will happen to Ronda as well. Cyborg gets like 1% the media Ronda does, yet everyone knows her. People who dont even watch UFC/mma anymore, know of Cyborg. The new young fans dont, due to they never watched SF. Let them see some Cyborg highlights/fights, and they will change their thoughts, yet they probabaly wouldnt admit to it though...

It amazes what Dana/media can do. Media can make ANYONE famous for anything...

Yes, but Cyborg hasn't done the marketing work to even create a buzz. There are a lot of annoying things about Rousey, but she went out and worked her butt off to create a buzz.

Look at what Rousey had to work with - an Olympic bronze in an obscure sport in a country that gets 100 medals every Olympics, two thirds of them silver and gold. How many bronze medal winners can you name from the 2008 Olympics besides Rousey? Cyborg is in a better place to create buzz than Rousey was in 2009. The difference is that Rousey went out and created that buzz, while Cyborg seems absolutely uninterested in doing any self-promotion.

Everything Rousey did to create a buzz Cyborg could do, but she can't be bothered. So why would the UFC go out of their way to create a division for someone not interested in marketing herself?

As far as that goes, Lesnar had to cut a lot of weight to make 265, he wanted a super heavy weight division. And even for someone with his fan base they refused to do it. If they wouldn't create a SHW division for Lesnar with all his PPV fans, why would they do it for Cyborg, who has a tiny PPV following.

Cyborg's lack of popularity is her own fault - if you don't promote yourself, no one is going to do it for you.

You are absolutely incorrect. Ronda was SF's biggest star, and this is how she ended up on the cover of Sports Illustrated for the first time, which was all pre-UFC.

Why do you think Dana, the person who said there will never be women in UFC, not only signed her, but brought her in as the Champ with a huge press conference? You think he would have done that for a nobody, who wasn't already a draw?

Ronda was already doing big things, and Dana wanted a piece of the pie... What UFC fighter was being featured on the cover of SI when Ronda was in Strikeforce? UFC didn't create Ronda, Ronda created herself, and then helped to create WMMA in the UFC.

There is a reason that Gina Carano and Ronda Rousey became big stars in Strikeforce, while Cyborg DID NOT. Is Ronda a bigger star now? Yes, but she was already a star in Strikeforce, and the world was taking notice so Dana had to get in on the shine.

The bottom line is that Cyborg will never be a star, because she doesn't have any star qualities. Joanna Jedrzejczyk has gained more notoriety within the last 6 months than Cyborg has over the last 6 years, and its not only because she is in the UFC, but also because she has legit star quality... and it kind of helps that she was never busted for steriods. :)
