The Original Cassius Clay

This Clay wasn't a coward who changed his name and dodged a war.
Why would you risk your life to fight a pointless war for a country that didn't recognize you as full human being or citizen at that time?. . . Or even if your life wasn't at risk why would you support this.

He explained his position perfectly. He was fighting for the rights of his people In his own country. Why would he abandon his fight and people to fight the enemy of his oppressor?

American law enforcement and government were murdering and committing human rights violations against African Americans. Litterally killing, assaulting, and imprisoning peaceful protesters. Taking their tax dollars at the same rate but providing inferior benefits and services to them. All this is common knowledge and historical facts. Are you not familiar with America pre civil rights movement???????

Logically it made no sense. Ethically it made no sense. And it was HEROIC for Ali to stand up to the greatest super power in the world. It's not cowardly to give up your career, fame, success and riches to rot in a prison cell.

Also, you may want to do some research on what it was like for Joe Lewis and Sugar Ray Robinson in the military....chances are Ali would of been safe and protected and used as PR and propaganda to raise troop morale. So being cowardly had nothing to do with it.

What does marcellus clay look like!?

Tell that to the thousands of dead working men who didn't have the luxury of a choice like the coward clay who cried, complained, and changed his name while being more privileged than half of America.
He wasn't privileged....He worked for his and it cost him his health. He litterally earned it.
You did not address any of the facts and logic in the post.
Ali, also went broke when he got out.
Killing strangers with no just cause because a shitty government orders you to for no reason is not heroic. Neither are the people who virtue signal over it.
Are you military?????

Well, from one point….
US used indians and afro americans for WW2 with a glance.
After WW2 they attempted continue official segregation ……………...
There of course too is point, why previously segregated ppl didn't want to die for some country that segregates them.
Imagine demand this stuff: gypsies and jews with willingless and glance wish to die for Hitler?
US was country that worshiped segregation then.
And slavery in all US territory was abolished only after Civil War.
-----------
U treat someone as trash due to his skin colour and/ or nationality and after this demand loyality?
Enforced loyality deserved former slave traders and holders?
They went to US to seek better life and then imported african people as their slaves.
--------
Outcome must be felt.
----------------------------------
As a boxer, ofc, 1959-1967 Ali was GOAT, in 70 ies..... more cos toughness and his big name.

Still, if we continue.
Tensions between governments " our order is better " were bought to Olympic scene too.
Ali at least delivered for US Olympic Gold medal.
If I compare with another country, that had 3 Olympic Gold medals just cos they had one guy with partially gypsy blood…………..they didn't segregated nor these medals nor his origin.

The boxing subforum happens to be about boxing. Please keep the political threads wherever they’re appropriate.

So, highest US mistake was, when they didn't abolished any segregation in 1945.
Then society most likely in 1960 ies had feeling more like in modern Netherlands.

Happens, if in discussion theme wasn't touched former boxer ( Olympic gold medalist ) that had his licence suspended due to political reasons.

And people in this thread don’t happen to discuss anything remotely close to his boxing fights.

Jesus. I can’t wait for the debate over Joe Cortez’s hemorrhoids issues.

for example why Luther King died etc like stuff. :)

There’s a subforum dedicated to politics. Very articulate, intelligent discussions. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it.

Exactly, it's a load of bollocks. You expect them to fight in your war but won't treat them as equal citizens at home.

Fuck man don't even get me started on Cortez's hemorrhoids issue!

Other Americans worked but still didn't get a choice when they got drafted. It was either go fight or go to jail.

While people who came back from the war were spit on Clay was worshipped for changing his name and acting a coward.
