Those were some slick, quick reaction counters he was landing in the first round.
He just throwing that big looping left like a goof. he was high on his own hype for sure. He's definitely got some great movement and timing, would have been nice to see him take the fight a little more seriously and not try to just take nate out early. But with that said Nate's got a ridiculous chin and just doesn't give up, having high level jujitsu was just the icing on the cake.
Conor showed he has some really solid boxing. The slips and counters as well as the damage was pretty incredible. If it had been anyone but Diaz taking those shots, it probably would have been over pretty quick, and I think that is what caught Conor off guard. Conor underestimated just how tough those Diaz boys are, and he blew his wad trying to finish Nate with spinning shit.
Conor's standup always looks good. Not sure how him fighting a taller, longer opponent and still looking good lessens that statement. The thing is, he looked amazing in the beginning BECAUSE it was Nate Diaz he was fighting. He didn't even have a camp, and even admitted he was gonna start off slow. He starts off slow anyways.
Conor wouldn't have been able to look as amazing against a guy like RDA that threatens with striking and grappling. Yes, Nate does too, but in a more passive way. Conor would've truly been guessing against RDA, and would've gotten hit so much, because he'd be timing the grappling, and vice versa.
Plus, RDA's kicks are pure death, and would've worn Conor's already suspect cardio down, very fast. Not to mention how open his lead leg is. Nate even landed one in the first, and Conor's leg went flying from it. And Nate's not even a leg kicker.
Conor leaves himself very open at times, and he wouldn't be able to walk after a leg kick from RDA. Plus, RDA uses a ton more movement than Nate, and wouldn't have given Conor as many opportunities to look as spectacular early on as he did.
2 totally different fights. You'll look great against Diaz early on, then if you keep trading with him, ultimately fail. RDA has the game to not have to keep trading with him, hence why Nate finished Conor, and couldn't put a finger on RDA.
Styles.

209 gonna 209.
He didn't spar. He was training for a triathlon at the time and is on the mats constantly. Diaz out of camp =/= Mendes out of camp. You said, Conor would've done what he did to Nate to anyone else, and anyone else would've been flat lined. My point is, Nate tends to make quicker strikers look great in the beginning, until he has your timing and rhythm down, and this time it was worse. He didn't even get a training camp, and STILL boxed him up, later on.
exactly, 209 is gonna 209.

And you don't have to lecture me on Diaz. I know how he is. Point is, Conor worked Diaz on the feet in a big way and had him backing up the entire round. Slow start, whatever, only Diaz bros can get away with it because they're tough as nails. Anyone else would have been finished.

I didn't say he would wreck anyone else as a statement of Conor is the best. I stated that the shots he landed and the damage they were doing would have likely finished anyone else at 155. Diaz is the exception. He's too tough. He wasn't sparring, and getting his timing and rhythm razor sharp like a fight camp. Even he said it. And I'm not trying to lecture you on Nate. I'm just pointing out why your claim that Conor would've wrecked anyone else besides Diaz is a fallacy.
He got wrecked by a guy that didn't even have a training camp. Let's be serious here. Triathlons are great and all, but that's not getting prepared for fighting. Completely different forms of aerobic/anaerobic training.
Uh. The right side of Nate's face was lookin like hamburger meat at the end of the first.LOLOLOLOLOLOL he missed so often, Nate walked the first round with barely a tap.

And oh my god the guy is on the mats probably 30+ hours a week training BJJ. Nate is never out of shape.
I'm not a Conor fan but thought he looked wonderful he's so quick ... I thought he landed so many perfect shots. Nate just has a chin. Those were some slick, quick reaction counters he was landing in the first round.
