is the number of fighters on the roster.

Seems like there are always a handful of threads stating a different factor that's bad for the UFC. (Conor, media drama, Dana, Reebok, judging, USADA, injuries, unified rules, time limits, rounds, etc.)

Then we speculate about the changes that could be made, or one particular change that could most benefit the organization. We talk about how to make it more exciting for both "casuals" and "hardcores". How to get back the raw excitement of the old days, but also grow in the direction of the other major sports leagues.

For me, they have to add a minor league. In the beginning, you basically knew the entire history of every fighter. In other sports, you pay to see the best. They wouldn't just fill half the slots on a Sunday with Arena League games and call it the NFL and charge for Sunday Ticket.

WE NEED TO BOYCOTT THE PRELIMS. WHO'S WITH ME?!?

No, but seriously who's with me?

NFL example doesn't really work imo because a lot of people barely know any of the players but because it's a team based sport they will always know the teams. Going back tot he days of 1 PPV a month and only viewable main card is pretty backwards and stupid

No. The UFC prelims are where we get to see up and comers. We wouldn't get to see the Yair Rodriguez's of the world...

Actually threads like this are ruining the UFC.

No, the UFC is already thin on talent in a few weightclass.
(HW, FLW, WMMA)

Maybe they should do like WWE an put another "brand" like NXT

(bring back WEC for example)
Keep the younger and old vet on the downhill in that "brand"
Make that fightpass only.
More fight don't hurt the sport.

WMMA got Invicta.
should do the same for men.

They need more body tbh...

whats ruining the UFC is them allowing vets to hold there rankings due to stupid constant rematches instead of allowing the new blood a crack into the top 10.

especially at HW

Hunt vs Ngannou pls

I'm not talking about Yair, or other real prospects, once they are proven. I'm talking about ten fights before that. I'm basically proposing that the UFC be comprised of the top 20 from each division, maybe top 15. And the rest get relegated.

This would also make it so the ranking process has to be more serious, and give people a reason to pay attention to them.

You are preaching to the choir.

I have posted numerous threads along these lines. I was less than a decade ago that the UFC roster was only 200 fighters.

In the past handful of years the UFC roster size has balooned from under 300 to well over 600 fighters.

The math is simple, and I have beat it to death.

There are 52 weeks in a year. The UFC has never hit an event per week over the course of a full year (45 iirc in 2014 was the most ever!).

There are between 11 and 12 fights per card (Let's use 12 just for argument sake!).

45 x 12 = 540 total fights in one year.

There are two fighters per fight (Thank goodness we don't have tag team MMA yet). This gives a total number of UFC fight slots in a single year to 1,080 (540 x 2).

If 600 UFC fighters fought a messily 2 times per year (Hardily enough to consider MMA a true sport, as it would be like a MLB season of 12 games instead of 162) that would require 1,200 fight slots. The actually had 622 UFC roster fighters that would require 1,244 fight slots to allow them two fights per year.

The UFC has clearly defined it's fanbase Human Kok-succers and the entire push to be recognized as a mainstream sport has died. Full reversion back to the WWE PPV model is what we have faced.

JOKE FUCKING HERE!

True GOATS of MMA are no longer required to fight more than once every three years to hold that "distinction!"

F-tard kids get F-d in the A if you know what I mean!.

Sure make them fight in a Minor league structure hence make less money or try for Bellator or another organization. Makes no sense.

If you get fight pass they have deals with many many low tier leagues. Theres some low tier mma events live on fight pass an avg of 5 days a week.

Basically what your asking for.

And no im not with you on boycott of prelims.

if the ufc keeps them signed, then they cant fight for the competitors - thats the main reason, in my mind, why they keep so many fighters tied down when they dont really need so many - exclusive contracts always win via KO

Don't watch the prelims -problem solved.

By the way I 100% agree that the top names should fight more. It's just that they are not always healthy.

I agree about the minor league. I would even have two minor leagues.

You get the outside top tenners for free on tv.
Then there are PPVs with all top tenners.
Then, maybe four times a year there are the supercards with nothing but title fights or top end grudge match/title eliminators. Charge double.

I had the answer for this years ago

The ufc should simple have a b league and an a league

B league goes on fight pass

A league is elite

They've already added several minor leagues; Essentially every other promotion on Fight Pass servers that purpose. Resurrection FC, Legacy FC, Titan FC, Shooto, Pancrase, KOTC, Tachi Palace and a slew of Midwestern promotions are were the UFC tends to get its fighters. If a fighter fails to rise in the ranks in the UFC they tend to just get their contract cut and sent back to fighting in one of these promotions. So in my opinion they have a pretty effective farm system. Now whether or not you are willing to follow a fighter's ascent from one promotion to another is on you.
