I remember this old commercial from when I was 9 or 10 that had that had the old man sharing his Werther's candy with his Grandson, just like how his Grandfather used to do with him. Well this would be impossible, because this commercial was filmed in 1990 and the Werther's company didn't hit the market until 1969.

As a kid I found it odd, because my Grandmother always had candy dishes with things like, Orange gummy slices, salt water taffy, and peppermints, but no Werther's. I asked her about them and she said she didn't remember them.

This thread is tongue and cheek of course, but I had one of these candy's today and with the power of the internet I googled how old the Werther's company is. I sensed bullshit in that commercial when I was a kid, and after all of these years it turns out that I was correct:D

Speaking of old timey candies, its damn near impossible to find jelly nougats anywhere!
Forget about finding them in stores and theyre not even in stock on Amazon or Walmart.com!
I miss you so much, jelly nougats!

They started making it in Germany in 1903; it was called Werthers Echte.

He’s got Alzheimers and forgot about pet hair taffy. Give the old man a break. Greatest Generation and all that.

Nice...old time candy lie thread I'm in!

There was a station in my local grocery store that sold the Brach's candies in bulk by the pound. I can't say if they still do. I haven't been inside the store for about 4 years as I use their online service.

Yea, I think those were standard in every grocery store when I was growing up
My local store still has the display but all the old timey Brachs candies like nougats and neopalitans have been replaced with Tootsie Rolls and salt water taffy
Its stupid and I hate it

My grandpa would always pay in exact change. I remember him reaching into his pocket and he'd open his hand and it was always full of change, life savers and werthers originals.

Ever get these on Halloween as a kid? No kid wants sesame seed candy. You never go back to that house again.

This stuff is from 1903.

Where did you get 1969 from?
