The next Lebron James

honestly lebrons kid looks like he has more skills than shaqs kid already. shaqs kid averaged something shitty like 4pts 3rebs in a full season. i wouldnt get too excited yet but he obv has the genes so who knows.

shaq at that age was already a destroyer of worlds.

Shaq Jr will be addicted to pills by age 20

When you do the math it is kind of nuts how common it is for players to have relatives that were pro athletes. McGrady and Vince are related. Grant Hill's dad was a pro football player. The Manning family. One of Muhamand Ali's grandkids is running a 4.38 40 and he is 16. I always laugh when people talk about if they trained harder they probably could have been a pro. There are probably way more pros that are just born that way than got there through incredibly hard work. Like that show pros vs joes, even top shape joes are no match for old and out of shape ex-pros.

At least for basketball..a lot of it is because of height. If your pops is 7'1, you'll still end up NBA sized even if you don't grow to be as tall as him. A lot of people are talented but don't have the genes. The taller you are, the more likely your chances of being in the NBA. A 7'0 guy doesn't have to be as talented as a 6'0 guy to make it in the NBA. Teams are always looking for size and there are a lot fewer 6'8 - 7'0 guys in the world to compete with. Then you have to factor in the fact that the kid will be immersed in basketball since birth because of his father and will have better opportunities to play for better teams with better coaches throughout his early development.

A non-NBA fathered child has a lot of shit to overcome to make it to the NBA. Genes + overcoming their environment (since many of them are from poor areas which could take them off course) + poor/failed school systems (high school kids can't be drafted out of high school anymore and there are some players who are so horrible academically that college won't accept them even by the already super laxed standards for college athletes.) NBA fathered kids have the genes, they grow up in upper class areas so environment isn't an issue and they usually have private school educations.

Thats why you see a bunch of former NBA players' sons ending up in the NBA.

Yeah being born with athlete genes I think is a big part of it. It's a shame, because of course we'd all like to believe that if we just worked hard enough we could make it to the big leagues, but for most of us that's not true.

Kobe and Curry are 2nd gen NBA players. Ken Norton was champion boxer and Ken Norton Jr. turned out to be one of the best football players of his era. David and Derek Carr, Dominque and Gerald Wilkins, Pau and Mark Gasol, Ken Griffey Sr and Jr, Doc and Austin Rivers, the list is just too long to say genetics doesn't play a major factor.
