The Myth of Colby Covingtons Supposed Inactivity

He fought nine months after he lost to Usman.

He became the #1 ranked contender in February.

Once you are the number one contender and the "head of the company' says publicly you are the next title challenger you don't need to take another fight.

You don’t have to but if people complain about you being inactive, bitches on Sherdog shouldn’t complain about it.

Bro he literally fought twice in your 1.5 year timeline. That doesn't help your case.

There's no evidence it's Colby's X-ray, loads of outlets ran with it, but he himself denied it, and how would Usman's team get hold of the fucking thing so soon after the fight? lol
Sure, if Colby denies it... "Medical report - Must have nondisplaced midline mandibular fracture cleared by oral and maxillofacial surgeon or no contest until 6/12/20. Minimum suspension until 2/13/20, no contact until 1/29/20." - https://www.sportbible.com/ufc/news-mma-colby-covington-shows-off-grim-x-ray-of-broken-jaw-20191220

You mean after Colby became the number one contender he should have taken another fight?

For what purpose, they are all fighting to became the number one contender.

Again, more intellectual dishonesty from Covington sycophants.

being #1 doesn't mean you sit on your ass and never fight.
you fight guys Burns and Leon (top contenders) to prove that you deserve it more than them.
cherry picking Mas and almost decisioning the corpse of Twood dont mean shit

Izzy has had a fight in average every 3 and half months since he joined the ufc.

Colby is inactive for someone who wants to be champion.

I hope he never gets the belt.

He wouldn't fight as much as Usman.
I think wonderboy would fight quite often due to his style and age also if he was champ

Your own explanation sums it up, Colby fought twice in 30 months. That is pretty inactive.

Can't wait until his clown car is gone

Usman has fought 3 times since he destroyed Colby, meanwhile Colby has only fought once.

Your thread is horseshit.

There is certainly been worse by several high ranking fighters with McGregor winning the big prize for stalling two divisions for a couple years. Aldo only fought one belt defense per year a couple times in his prime. When Bisping got his lucky shot to get his paper belt for MW he waited over a year before defending and then defended against a 46 year old fighter. He then waited over a year again and defended against an unranked MW (GSP) - money fight. We also have fighters in the opposite scenario. Unranked Diaz didn't fight for three years and was suddenly in a fight where a win might have granted him a belt opportunity ahead of the rest of the division.

The attacks on Colby are no different than haters attacking Jon Jones with false information.

EDIT* Stipe only fought one fight per year for the last few years and all of them were belt fights.

1. He's only fought once in 18 months.
2. He openly refuses to fight anyone other than Usman or Masvidal.

When you lose a title fight, you should get back on the horse and work your way back up. Go smash a few guys like Chiesa, Woodley, and Edwards in quick succession. Instead, he's acted like an entitled child since the Usman fight. He immediately started crying about the stoppage and claimed he would have won if not for the "bad stoppage" (FYI, he would have lost the decision). He demanded an immediate rematch, but didn't get it. Then he gets one win over an over-the-hill Woodley (Colby himself admits that Woodley is washed) and again starts demanding a title shot.

Yes, a number of the top 10 WWs have been acting like divas and refusing to fight each other. But that doesn't absolve Colby's behavior. And at least most of those guys aren't pretending that they deserve a title shot like Colby (except for Edwards, who has long winning streak).

colby haters are a sad lot. their hate for colby is the only thing they have going on in their sad lives

what i learnt from this thread is colby is inactive.

In December 2019, Colby lost to Kamaru Usman in the fifth round of their title fight, via TKO.

In September 2020, approximately nine months after his title fight loss, Colby fought the previous champion Tyron Woodley (then #5) and defeated him via TKO.

In February 2021, approximately five months after Colby fought Tyron Woodley, he moved from the #2 ranked WW to the #1 ranked WW following the defeat of Gilbert Burns defeat at UFC 258.

In April 2021, approximately two months after Colby became the #1 ranked WW, Dana White confirmed at the UFC 261 post fight press conference that Colby would be Kamaru Usmans next opponent.

Since it is repeated now as fact, erroneously, that Colby has been "inactive"; more-so than the other WW contenders supposedly.

Tell me during what period in the timeline above Colby should have fought, who he should have fought that he did not, and why fighting them would have advanced his position in the UFC.

There is nothing abnormal about Colbys activity post title fight loss.
Colby has been more active since he lost to Kamaru Usman than other WW contenders such as: Michael Chiesa, Stephen Thomson, Leon Edwards etc.

You can not care for Colby the person, while still being intellectually honest enough to admit he has been as active as he needed to be to regain his position as the number one ranked contender; and the next title challenger according to Dana White.
Quite a number of Usman fans are borderline retarded. They will reply to you with a picture of Colby getting punched or talk about Usman being dominant, when this thread isn’t even about that. I guarantee you Athlas and richardjohnson will show up here likes flies around dog shit.

Well leon has 2 fights to Colby's one.

The problem with WW is that a bunch of people think they have done enough and are scared of losing their shot because it is pretty competitive at the top of the division.

Colby is fighting basically once a year atm, which isn't unusual for a top fighter.
