In December 2019, Colby lost to Kamaru Usman in the fifth round of their title fight, via TKO.

In September 2020, approximately nine months after his title fight loss, Colby fought the previous champion Tyron Woodley (then #5) and defeated him via TKO.

In February 2021, approximately five months after Colby fought Tyron Woodley, he moved from the #2 ranked WW to the #1 ranked WW following the defeat of Gilbert Burns defeat at UFC 258.

In April 2021, approximately two months after Colby became the #1 ranked WW, Dana White confirmed at the UFC 261 post fight press conference that Colby would be Kamaru Usmans next opponent.

Since it is repeated now as fact, erroneously, that Colby has been "inactive"; more-so than the other WW contenders supposedly.

Tell me during what period in the timeline above Colby should have fought, who he should have fought that he did not, and why fighting them would have advanced his position in the UFC.

There is nothing abnormal about Colbys activity post title fight loss.
Colby has been more active since he lost to Kamaru Usman than other WW contenders such as: Michael Chiesa, Stephen Thomson, Leon Edwards etc.

You can not care for Colby the person, while still being intellectually honest enough to admit he has been as active as he needed to be to regain his position as the number one ranked contender; and the next title challenger according to Dana White.

He’s fought once in the past 19 months (against over the hill Woodley). Spends most of his time training and posting dumb videos with rented women, rather than actually fighting.

Also hes been offered fights against both Masvidal and Usman after Woodley fight and accepted every time while both Usman and Masvidal scared to even drop his name. Colby haters are rampant on this forum so doesn't really mean much when they talk shit. End of the day, Colby is Usmans toughest matchup and people are talking about the fight every single day.

He fought nine months after he lost to Usman.

He became the #1 ranked contender in February.

Once you are the number one contender and the "head of the company' says publicly you are the next title challenger you don't need to take another fight.

Michael Chiesa, Leon Edwards, and Stephen Thomson have all been more inactive than Covington.

Colby turned down fights with Wonderboy and Edwards. People acting like Usman is afraid of Colby need to put the pipe down. It's sad.

    There can be Colby haters

The problem is fighters like Michael Chiesa, Stephen Thomson, and Leon are then mentioned as more deserving than Colby due to his supposed inactivity; when in reality they have all been more inactive than him.

Stephen Thomson had a thirteen month layoff following his last fight pre-pandemic.

Michael Chiesa had a twelve month layoff following his last fight pre-pandemic.

Leon Edwards is more deserving than Covington of a title shot right now, no question, but Dana White has said Colby Covington is next so he will have to wait.

Kamaru could have called out Leon instead of Masvidal and fought him in April; he chose too instead call out a guy he knew had absolutely no chance of beating him; thats the legacy of Kamaru Usman.

You mean after Colby became the number one contender?

He should have fought Stephen Thomson or Leon Edwards?

The whole point of the rankings is to become the number one contender, the next title challenger, once Colby achieves that why the hell would he take a fight with someone other than the champion?

For what purpose, they are all fighting to became the number one contender.

Again, more intellectual dishonesty from Covington sycophants.

It’s not a myth. He’s fought once in the last two years (19 months?). He’s not active.

You can spin it anyway you want, but facts are he has one win since losing to Usman and it’s over the ghost of Woodley.

Dude's about as active as Conor.

Give Leon or WB a shot already.

You didn't bust the myth of his inactivity, you merely justified it.

    Poorly.

Mods, please update the title to "Justifying Colby's inactivity...poorly"

Implying the rankings have ever mattered.

He had 1 win over a washed Woodley that has aged very poorly, he's been offered fights and turned them down to make cringe videos and complain about everyone else.
    Colby a certified hoe.
