Which fighters do you think were the most overrated?

This could be by fans, commentators or fellow fighters.

My list:

1) Mark Hunt - Was never a world beater, yet his fans would constantly act like he was. And his chin, although very good, was not indestructible like it was made out to be. No durable HW should be getting KOed by a 5 foot 8 MW, no matter how hard he hits.

2) Cro Cop - Got exposed badly in the UFC, but is still put on a pedestal

3) BJ Penn - Motivated Penn, need I say more lol?

4) Nate Diaz - Average as hell, but the McGregor fights made him out to be elite

5) Paddy Pimblett - Would struggle against top 10, yet is seen by many as a special talent

6) Nassourdine Imavov - His hype got crashed recently, but before, commentators were acting like he was special. Sooooo average.

2) Cro Cop
3) BJ Penn

Fedro. Good fighter, but by far the most overrated. Nog too.

True.

Fedor was a legend influence wise, but he was no where near as good as his stans made him out to be.

Dude had clear holes in his games, and it showed the moment he stopped fighting in Pride.

Fedor. Brandon Vera overrated himself back in the day by saying he’d be HW and LHW champ at the same time and never got a title shot.

Regarding your list, Penn is properly rated as an all time great lightweight right behind Khabib.

As for other hype jobs / UFC brass favorites that didn’t live up to it: Darren Till, Chris Daukaus, Uriah Hall, Todd Duffee, Eryk Anders, Erick Silva (still young so has time for this change), Shane Burgos, Ion Cutelaba, Paul Craig, Kron Gracie, Ryan Hall, and Doo Ho Choi.

We'll have to agree to disagree about the Penn, but I agree with all your other mentions.

Erick 'he's still young, he has time' Silva still makes me laugh haha

Cain. People made him out to be the best heavyweight ever, but he was always injured and got finished too many times in his short career.

I think by the list of people you consider overrated its possible with the high probability to determine when a person started to watch/follow a sport.

To the TS... Its always easier to point out with a wit or sarcasm why fighter A or B is not good/was never good. Statements like 'exposed' or 'holes' in the game which should point our how insightful you are as a critic/observer are actually making me feel sorry for you.
Not that any of those legends need my defence, but did you actually follow Hunt in K-1? His fights with JLB will go down in history, your contribution to the humanity will go into the wasteland... 'Motivated BJ Penn, need I say more, lol'? Is supposed to be an argument for what? The person is a legend, winning black belt BJJ competition being brown belt. Got a nickname Prodigy ... The guy goes up a class long before it was popular and beats Matt Hughes, unbeatable at the time... by submission... but after reading your witty comments - I am like 'o'right'... he was never good if MartinBrownTree says so.
Serious question talking smack about real legends, putting their health on the line for your entertainment (sure, their choice, given), does it make you feel that you are somehow better?
This phenomena always interested me - a person who is barely top 20 in this thread, talking sh!t about a person who was number 1 in the world... calling him/her overrated. Does it do wonders to your self-esteem? I hope it does, otherwise I am just feeding a troll :)

When I look at your list, I think these fighters are more fan favorites. Not so much that people think they are near GOAT status. Penn might be the exception, for about 5 years he was probably the best LW fighter in the world fighting WW and MW.

I miss when white belts weren't allowed to start threads.

The answer is masvidal most overrated fighter if all time got famous from beating Ben freaking askren..him not being mentioned blows me away

Have you seen his win streak. He’s still winning at 45 yrs old

Honda. She had people out there saying she could win boxing matches and even beat some guys

Forgot Kevin Holland, Maycee Barber, Elias Theodorou, Brandon Thatch, and Pat Healy.
