The Most Important Principle of Strength & Conditioning

What do you think of any of these books EZA? Would these be fairly hard reads for someone who nows jack shit about the human body? Which would you recommend? My college library didnt have anything by Verkhoshansky.

I would suggest reading Science & Practice of Strength Training, the rest of them you might as well be reading greek unless you have a degree in physics or mechanical engineering. See if you can also find anything by Atko Viru, especially Adaptation in Sports Training I really like that book. It's pretty technical but you might be able to pick a few things out of it. Science & Practice is a great book though, there is even a newer edition out with some extra material in it but start with the one they have at the library you'll learn a lot from it.

EZA I have seen you talk about injury prevention excercises. I have a weak joint in my lower neck which makes my neck stiff about every 3 months on average and forces me to take abreak from training for about a week.

I have it again at the moemnt after sparring last night, what sort of excercises would you reccomend?

If you can find a physio who deals with rugby and/or football players on a regular basis he or she may have some good ideas on how to rehabilitate that sort of injury.

AU,

You need to get a better diagnosis of what is exactly going on than "a weak joint in your lower neck." That's not enough information to really have much of an idea of exactly what's going on or how you should best work to fix it. In general there are tons of wrestling exercises and bridges that strengthen the neck and traps but do yourself a favor and see a specialist (preferably not a chiropractor unless you know for sure they are good) and get a better diagnosis of the exact cause of the injury.

I go to an osteopath who cracks my neck and loosens off the muscles round about my neck and shoulders it tends to work but the injury reoccurs eventually. I could ask for my medical notes, he has explained what is wrong but it go's over my head as I dont have a full understanidng of how th eneck and spine works.

Do you think a physio is better?

I hurt it aabout 4-5 years back while doing lateral raises, since then it flares up every now and again. I havent trained for over a week now as it is still sore, I seen the osteopath on monday. He said give it another week so that is 2 weeks out fo training.
