This fight really frustrated me...
First Fedor seemed in great shape, fought like a lion, clearly kept a great pace and seemed to have developed his skills, the flying knee (never seen him do that), low kicks, high kick, elbows, and great head movements. I'm sure they all would have worked way better if it wasn't after 20 concussions in a row.
But, he also seemed to be making the same mistakes that cost him his losses. At the beginning he was just head hunting and charging. And he gave up his back, the same thing he did with Bigfoot, basically muscling his way up and running away instead of developing a better bottom game.
The most frustrating thing was watching him batter Maldanado's forearms... why didn't he plant a nice KO uppercut or go for the body ??? It's like he thought he'd shatter Fabio's arms.
It really kills me to see Fedor training with his eternal partner Kirill and a bunch of MW amateurs. He's already GOAT but MMA has evolved and it really kills me to wonder what he could learn to compensate for age if he trained at ATT now.
I called it from the beginning. This fight was a huge risk and mistake... it was like Cro Cop taking Gonzaga instead of going straight for the title.
Fedor still may go to UFC... seeing that heart and that exciting of a fight makes you wonder the crazy match-ups that could happen in UFC but he's lost the negotiations and will get paid a lot less now.
