I was such a huge MK fan as a kid. Loved the games, the backstory, the characters. It got me into Martial Arts, and appreciated it's original influences like BloodSport. So when it was announced a movie was coming out, I was stoked. When I saw the TV trailer, I was extatic, and I was literally praying to god and thanking him for making it PG-13. I saw it twice that weekend, with two sets of friends, and had an absolute blast. Hell, even my mom liked it, and she hated my addiction to MK.

For being a 12 year old, it was the best damn movie anyone could ask for their favorite franchise could be made into.

Now 20 years later, and older, I'm usually very critical of things I grew up with. Like I tried watching the original TMNT series a few years ago and stopped halfway through the 1st season. But the MK movie holds up, it was good then, and it's just as good now.

And the trailer is still fuckin awesome as well.

I may be viewing this movie through nostalgia. But this is one of the very few things that I want my nostalgia goggles to be welded to my eyes.

    This is nothing to celebrate.

The only good thing to come out of this movie was a decent techno song.

  4. Perhaps my favourite action film of all time. This movie coming out was probably the highlight of my childhood, and it SOLD OUT when I went to see it! I had to watch the fucking BABYSITTERS CLUB instead (which wasn't that bad of a movie, tbh).

When I first saw this poster, time stopped, and the world stood still.

Fuck yeah. I love Mortal Kombat. I was lucky enough to have my own Sega Genesis in my own room with the MK games. It was awesome. The first movie is great too. The second one still has a special place in my heart as well ^_^

    Perhaps Raul Julia's finest film.

Loved this when I was a kid. It got me so pumped up one day I punched my sister in the face. Watching it now is unbearable but still one of the better video game movies.

A better game-to-movie conversion would be difficult to find.

Used to watch this non-stop when i was a kid.

Dude... don't taint the nostalgia of the first film by bringing up the sequel.

Like everyone else, I loved the soundtrack. In the age of reboots, I wonder why no one has attempted to reboot this movie.

    It's a 90's and martial arts classic.

Great film. One of my all time favorites.

Someone made a really dark multipart miniseries on YouTube that was excellent. They should have him translate it into a movie.

I loved this as a kid. Rewatching it as an adult it was garbage, but Johnny Cage vs. Scorpion was still legit.
