No he doesn't. There were whole episodes in the first season that he wasn't even in and nobody noticed, they could replace him with just about any other actor at this point and fans wouldn't care. There's nothing special about his voice or line delivery, sounds like a typical storm trooper.

If anything, him complaining is just proving the directors right about keeping the star in a helmet, that way they can't be held hostage by an actor that puts himself above the work.

Let him out of his contract and move on, he's inconsequential to the role.
