Its not a 20 pound different like it is from Light heavyweight to middleweight or even a 15 pound difference from welterweight to middleweight. 10 pounds is a lot i understand, but Kenny Florian fought at 185 and made 145. Plus 1 fight gets you a title shot. More fighters should move down to 145

Yea. Kinda is weird. I think eventually it might start evening out but for right now, LW has to be the deepest division in MMA. A lot of body frames seem to be able to cut to that weight.

Some fighters view it as ducking the competition?

Cutting weight is harder than most people think. More than half the people in the 155 division already probably dread cutting down to that weight. 10 more pounds is alot in terms of a fight time weight cut.

A bunch of guys did or at least tried to. There are tons of big weight cutters at LW who can't make it down. 10 more lbs is a lot of weight for smaller guys to cut.

I agree. Many of those guys would get a title shot after a couple fights at fw.

I think is the biggest reason. Frankie seems like the only top contender from 155 that cut very little weight, and he already dropped. Lentz and Siver already moved down and look good, but they were pretty small LW's. Guida just moved down too, and could stir up the division some.

Besides that, I would really like to see Lauzon and Dunham down. They always looks smaller than the people they fights, and both have looked to have better cardio lately. I think He could put on a tear at 145

This. When you weigh only 155, 10 pounds is alot to cut.

Lw is the lowest of the real prestige fighting weights

Drop any lower and it's midgets, dwarves, babies, girls etc etc

Some already moved down, but I think 155 is the smaller "prestige" division
It's like HW, many guys could cut to LHW but fighting at HW is simply more prestigious

Yeah I agree. I don't know much about weight cutting but i'd assume you'd be able to cut a certain percentage rather than an overall figure. And yeah if you're already cutting to get there it's hard to go down, I'm assuming someone like Gray Maynard would have no chance.

Rampage has said he could make 145 if he cut off his d*ck...because he claimed it weighed nearly 80 pounds.

    I think he was joking.

I think the weight cut is what prevents a lot of fighters doing it, like someone said above, the cut to 155 is most likely hard enough for them. Plus once they reach the weight, the ultimate reward/goal is fighting Aldo, which I doubt many find all that enticing.

    1. what in your mind makes you think it's just easy to just go down a weight class?
    2. 10lbs becomes a greater percentage of their body weight the lower the weight class. not to mention every fighter reacts differently to cutting weight

A lot of the 155ers cut a ton of weight to make that already. 10lbs isn't that much to cut, but 10lbs more in addition to what they already cut is tremendous.

But Siver did make the cut to 145, and that dude is massive.

All the 155ers will cut to 145 once aldo moves up to 155.
