The left's war against independent media

Fuck off with that shit... It's not "criticizing the media" when Trump affiliates have full-blown Stalinist campaigns to discredit journalists that they don't like.
The campaign is consistent with Mr. Trump’s long-running effort to delegitimize critical reporting and brand the news media as an “enemy of the people.” The president has relentlessly sought to diminish the credibility of news organizations and cast them as politically motivated opponents.

Journalism, he said in a tweet last week, is “nothing more than an evil propaganda machine for the Democrat Party.”

Then there's trying to revoke Jim Acosta's press pass because he asked questions that weren't deferential enough.

And let's not forget the chubby wannabe dictator himself threatening a journalist with prison time for taking a picture.

Again, some more bullshit whataboutism. The whole right wing "free speech" brigade seems to be more concerned with allowing bigots and white supremacists to avoid being deplatformed or dodge consequences for straight-up hate speech. Again, that is not what free speech is really about. If you really want to waste your time arguing some dumbass 4chan argument that these two things are somehow equivalent, go ahead and waste everybody's time doing just that.

Jim Acosta was constantly grandstanding. He was detracting from actual journalism occurring during press conferences. Guys like him are a big part of why journalists are so widely despised.

Other than that, everything you described here is criticism, which is of course protected by the freedom of the press. The left wants to make sure people are fired for jokes, deplatformed for "hate speech", which often means non-hateful mainstream conservative speech, and to enforce speech codes, like almost every left leaning campus in the US tried to enforce over the past few decades. That effort is now happily falling apart due to great efforts by right leaning civil rights orgs like FIRE.

Oh, that's precious. So Trump felt threatened by the fact that Acosta was grandstanding better than the Bullshit Artist in Chief himself? Trump trying to cheat against the competition again? What a joke you have to be in order to still support this fake-ass reality host/conman.

Lol, such low self awareness. Maybe you should ask yourself why "mainstream conservative speech" has shifted so far alt-right that it's becoming indistinguishable from old school white supremacism and anti-semitism. The dog whistles are getting way too audible these days.

Yep, Trump may have felt threatened. He's sensitive that way. However, what a joke to represent the tiff between Acosta and Trump as an assault on freedom of the press.

Well as they say, If you can hear the dog whistle, you might be the dog. Antisemitic speech has definitely been on the rise on both the right and left. This isn't just a US phenomenon, though the rise of antisemitism on the left is certainly noticeable here. But it seems to be the case the UK's Labor Party as well. It's one area that is sure to find bipartisan support. However, the idea that mainstream conservative speech resembles white supremacism is ignorant.

If you'd like to have a constructive discussion of free speech problems on the right and left, I'm interested. But if you are only into making angry points scattershot, please enjoy the last word as I see myself out.

In contrast to what? Trumps great respect for the media?

The courts literally had to force him to allow the media access to the white house after he threw them out for asking questions he didn't like.

yeah liberal operatives first and foremost under the guise of being a journalist. He should throw them out. And invite internet media personalities and online media sites to ask him questions instead. From both sides.

I bet they take their jobs More seriously and act with more dignity and integrity than the white household press corps does.

You have leftists n this site ready to love Mitt Romney and George Bush because their media God hinted they should. That's the power the powers that be want over the weak minded. This is a real threat. I do not consume a lot of independent media, myself, but it's important to have non-corporate media entities able to write stories about events, fkn obviously.
Who are those leftists on this board, you can @ them.

You really don't know how inculcated you sound, do you? It's literally everybody but Trump and you guys, they're all crazy. You guys are the red pilled based arbiters of the honest seeking of truth, and everybody wants to destroy you!!!!

It's meant to target Uber, Lyft and stuff like door dash, and it's meant to provide protections for the "contractors" that employees would be entitled to. Basically to force the businesses hand and make them hire people as actual employees. I think the journalists that it would hurt are collateral damage.
So many unintended consequences here. There are different ways tonrsise minimum wage besides forcing businesses to do so.

You mean the incident where the White House posted a video that was obviously doctored by InfoWars and then was ordered by a Federal Judge (a Trump appointee by the way) to immediately restore Acosta's credentials? How is that not a blatant example of the Trump administration displaying their nasty brand of incompetence? And how is that not an assault on the press?

There's nothing ignorant about it. Even conservative media outlets have pointed out how ingrained white supremacist ideology is to the alt right and their shitty meme economy. So much crappy Boomer humor mixed with outright falsehoods about race, science, and made-up historical facts.

So long, I guess... I'm sure you'd spend most of your time trying to hide behind some fake "both-sides"-ism, so let's save ourselves the trouble of having to go down that road. So much of what you post is just utter bollocks anyways.

Naw you just don't realize you've been lead by the nose. Russia stuff was comical lies, and now you are ready to throw your support behind anybody the establishment says is ok. Some of us just see things moving in a certain direction, don't like it, and realize not liking the direction isn't an option those benefiting from the dysfunction and plutocracy was available

What about "Russia stuff" was comical lies, exactly?

You realize that the mainstream leftist media gets the vast majority of it's stories from conservative owned newspapers, right?

One of the easiest signs of inculcation is to remark at how the cult member will assign everything into dualistic categories. It's us vs. them, the MAGAs vs. the establishment, the people vs. the deep state, etc.

Trump fills his cabinet with pilferers and scumbags that would make Dick Cheney blush, yet it's him against the establishment. It's amazing you can't see this, but still award yourself good feelings because you think you're justified.

But independent journalists are the only ones who have opinions that differ from mainstream media
If you think this, you don't know much about journalism and the people who work in it. Take it from someone who's actually worked in journalism. The people you think are "independent journalists" aren't actually the ones affected by the Uber bill.

True, but youtube is definitely going after independent journalists

Deep state is just a group of people with cushy jobs and lives making money off taxes who don't want anybody rocking the boat in any way. Everybody who is a part of it may not even be aware of it. Our bodies are made up of cells doing their own thing without the cognitive knowledge that they are creating a larger being. A lot of things are like this. Things start growing a certain way and the people/pieces involved play a part; some self aware of their part, others not as much.

Yeah, the Russian stuff is comical lies and bs. The things apparently there to worry about are at least, at least, as much on the side that is doing the over the top accusing. It's getting really weird, quite frankly.

Ok, so you're just going to keep fabricating a little conspiracy entity and refuse to provide anything to buttress you assertion pertaining to Russia. Ok.

Again, what pertaining to Russia was comical lies, exactly?

The accusations that anybody (who was accused) was working for them or directly on their behalf.. Or was an "agent" of them.

That's a different kettle and to be blunt, most of the people who are probably going to list as journalists are not. It doesn't mean they are useless to the public, but journalism is a pretty specific trade.

Oh, so you're not going to address anything related to what the report detailed, and are going to settle for vague claims, devoid of any context of any kind........
