That’s right, it is now illegal for a bar or restaurant to refuse to serve alcohol to a woman visibly pregnant because “discrimination.” We are now being forced by government to participate in child abuse.
“That would also apply to foods deemed risky during pregnancy, such as raw fish or soft cheese,” reports The New York Times. “But it’s alcohol consumption by pregnant women that has long driven the touchiest debates over private etiquette and public policy.”
On Friday, a release by the Commission on Human Rights nonsensically explained that private entities who don't not want to serve a nine-month pregnant woman a shot of whiskey "based on maternal or fetal safety," are really just bigots who are discriminating and reinforcing "traditional gender norms and stereotypels." I kid you not: “While covered entities may attempt to justify certain categorical exclusions based on maternal or fetal safety, using safety as a pretext for discrimination or as a way to reinforce traditional gender norms or stereotypes is unlawful,” said the release.
“To a certain extent it’s government run amok,” lamented Robert Bookman, a lawyer for New York City Hospitality Alliance. Bookman highlighted the inconsistency with the state's mandates: Currently, New York state law requires bars to posts signs in their establishments to warn their patrons about the harmful effects of alcohol to unborn babies.
Per the Center for Disease Control, here are some of the estimated damages to an unborn child whose mother consumes alcohol:
Women who drink alcohol while pregnant increase their risk of having a baby with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD). The most severe form is Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS), which causes mental retardation and birth defects.
FASD are completely preventable if a woman does not drink while pregnant or while she may become pregnant. It is not safe to drink at any time during pregnancy.
Excessive drinking increases a woman’s risk of miscarriage, stillbirth, and premature delivery.7,10
Women who drink alcohol while pregnant are also more likely to have a baby die from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS). This risk substantially increases if a woman binge drinks during her first trimester of pregnancy.
