So this was the opinion of one of the guys on a sports talk show I listened to today

"Conor is a true warrior for stepping back up and fighting 2 weight classes above his own. It took tons of courage for him to do it the first time and his body maybe just didn't have enough time to acclimate to that weight. Now after he lost he begged the UFC for a rematch at the same 175 pound weight. The UFC wanted to do a catch weight of 155 or 160 but Conor said no, he wanted it back at 175 b/c he has the heart of a lion. So Conor is jumping up from 145 to 175 to fight Nate at Nate's weight class again!".

I almost called in but wasn't even sure where to start to correct them.

It's 170 not 175
155 is not a "catch weight"
170 is not Nate's weight class
Conor didn't gain 30 pounds, there is a thing called cutting weight. His coaches even said he only fought like 3-4 pounds heavier than usual.
Conor wants the fight at 170 so it doesn't ruin his 155 title chances.

Please share an other idiotic things your local radio shows have said. Or even anything idiotic that national shows have said.

You don't have to believe me, believe his coaches. It's not that far fetched. When he fought Aldo he was around 167-168 in the cage. Considering he weighed in vs Diaz at like 168 it's conceivable he didn't cut much if any weight.

Yes it is.
Nothing more annoying then casual who think they know the sport.

MMA is still a fledgling pseudo sport. Just be glad it's being talked about.

MMA is still relatively new to sports talk shows in my opinion. Most of them never watched it or just seen highlights. It's like they are forced to talk about it if there isn't anything big going on you know. lol.

To be honest, if that's what they actually said, it's A LOT closer than what other outlets end up saying. Yeah, I know the whole moving up two weight classes narrative is getting pretty old considering Nate is predominately a LW figher, but fuck, they at least got the names right and within five pounds of the actual weight.

It's better than Cro Cop vs Fir including a picture of Perosh.

Giblert.

Or the long list of places that still refer to it as human cockfighting like NY newspapers, Germany, Australia, etc.

What's more to say? You've said it all.

Casuals come in here thinking they know everything, but they leave as soon as their boy gets whooped. Diaz destroying McGregor a second time will clear the pressure of stupid threads and idiotic fans.

I heard ESPN reporter saying he likes mcgreg. "This guy won 145 belt then moved up a weight class and beat Jose aldo before moving up again in weight to fight diaz"

The whole process of legalising it in NY,was embarrassing.
No wonder it took so long.

So kind of like Sherdog then.
Beat me to it! I was going to say just like Sherdog, where hardcore MMA fans post ignorant shit all day.

Forgetting main stream sports media, there isn't a lot of good MMA coverage anywhere.

The lack of MMA knowledge on an MMA forum should be more shocking.

I watched ESPN for interviews when they had Dana and fighters on. But regular discussions about MMA suck. Seems most these guys on sports talk radio don't know much about the sport except what they are fed. And most seem to only be interested in the top 3 or 4 sports.
I was watching the local news here after the Diaz/Conor fight. They showed HL's for about 10 seconds. Then said Diaz is now the WW title holder at the end. But i would expect shit like from media news, rather than some guy that has a sports show.

MMA is a niche sport. I bet SportsCenter fucks up their reporting of curling too, but no one but curlers ever notices or cares.
