The Internet & Social Media, would the world be better off if they never existed?

Internet is essential. I can’t imagine doing my job without it.

The internet is amazing and so very useful. Social media is pointless and can die in a fire

Social media is complete shit. We now have world governments having pissing matches online.

Imagine this. 20 years ago, people would have a rage thought, and then potentially think the better of it before they talked to their group of friends.
Now, people have a rage thought and immediately share it with THE WORLD, before they can even really work it out in their head.

The internet in general is fine. Even forums such as this one are okay, although some are certainly skirting the edges of pure echochamber for certain subjects. However, sites like Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/Tumblr are a fucking stain upon the internet and need to be fucking purged with the fire of a thousand wrathful gods.

it is bound to happen, the internet is a precursor to a one world government.

The internet has absolutely made the world a better place. I'm not sure about social media though. Sometimes I prefer the pre-Facebook and Twitter internet.

the internet? no. Simply having access to online journal databases and other like things makes it worthwhile alone IMO (remember going to college and having to Microfilm/phish stuff? good lawd)

SM? yes, absolutely

No way. Anyone who grew up without the internet should agree with that. Life is so much easier.

I love social media because it helps me stay in contact with military buddies and long distance friends/family. It’s also scary because we live in a world now where many people just want to be famous on social media instead of actually applying themselves.

Yeah, I don’t have to go out to get porn anymore, or anything else at all.
I can't even imagine what it would have been like to be 13 with a world of porn at my finger tips. Jesus. These kids today will never know what it's like trying to satisfy your teenage lust with an underwear catalog you 'borrowed' from your mom.

Or the scrambled, squiggly picture on the Spice channel hoping to catch the glimpse of a titty.

i was eating at a popular chain restaurant the other day with my wife. about 10 minutes before we left a couple was sat next to us. the guy never once took his head out of his phone. i mean never once looked up. they ordered wine for which he didnt look up either. meanwhile the woman sat there looking blankly ahead drinking her wine. it just really struck me as being sad how we no longer prefer real interaction with people to some shit on a phone

Shockingly I noticed this very same thing on Saturday. I was out with my wife, son and in-laws and we all noticed this couple that was a table away, and did the same exact thing except the woman was also looking at her phone. Did not see/hear them interact at all.

Internet man

How else would I know about books that are over hundreds of years old that tell the truth about history.

Social media can burn tho.

The internet just allows us to put a magnifying glass on human behavior, and a lot of issues that were already there. For me, I miss certain things but I'd never go back.

I have friends all over the world, get to experience different cultures and perspectives in ways I never could before. That alone makes life better than it was before.

Haha I remember using both of these methods. So much desperate horniness, and so little accessible porn. Like dying of thirst in a desert.

And having to use your overactive 13 year old imagination, locking yourself in the bathroom for 1/2 an hour after school every day lol.

Lol I remember my mom was like what are you doing in the bathroom for so long?

Imagine an ai that judges us solely on our online activity, we would be hosed.

"These people are all spiteful perverts who have no lives....I must exterminate them to save the earth"
