I'll be surprized if anyone answers 'yes' but i'll ask anyway.

Would anyone here prefer to live in a world where the internet did not exist?[yes, i know without the 'net i wouldn't be able to ask this.]

Or maybe a world where Social Media hadn't been created?

The world as a whole? Absolutely not.

People who are clearly addicted to it? Sure.

  3. Are you implying the world would be better off without Sherdog?

All the social media they're feed the artificial intelligence machines will be the cause of those machines wanting to eradicate mankind for the greater good.

    Thanks social media.

As a sidenote: Some of us here are the last generation to know what life was like without the internet.

i was eating at a popular chain restaurant the other day with my wife. about 10 minutes before we left a couple was sat next to us. the guy never once took his head out of his phone. i mean never once looked up. they ordered wine for which he didnt look up either. meanwhile the woman sat there looking blankly ahead drinking her wine. it just really struck me as being sad how we no longer prefer real interaction with people to some shit on a phone

Imagine an ai that judges us solely on our online activity, we would be hosed.

Maybe he didnt look up cause he was trying to avoid eye contact with the weirdo that was obsessively staring at him the whole time

Mixed bag in regards to social media. Social media is a new tool, kind of like he printing press. It has already helped inspire revolutions for good, but for the average person, the negatives of mob mentality, access to complain publicly about everything, proclivity for narcissism, losing perspective on privacy, shift towards identity, loss of interaction in the world of atoms, and damaged attention spans are overwhelmingly net negatives. Most people’s lives would be better if things like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Sherdog didn’t exist.

    Lolol.

The one I like is when I’m at the park with my kids and all the parents are buried in their phones. Then there’s the look up moment after not paying attention to their kids for the last 20 minutes followed by sudden panic as they realize they have no idea where they are. Then they finally find them on the other side of the park, corral them back to the playground and then continue on looking at their phones.

At any given time you have half the parents on their phones and the other half looking around for their kids.

I was just fine before they existed. I just had to get movies and magazines to get off instead of what I do now.

I have been thinking about this.

It's the people who have always been this shitty. With, or without Internet, you will still have the hordes of stupid people everywhere.
Social media just makes it more visible.

It might be rose tinted glasses but it seems like a simpler time. I enjoyed my childhood pre Internet.

Internet I can live with, but social media is a cancer. There are many, many, many people who do not deserve a platform or attention.

It amazes and scares me how often I see scenes like this. The worst is when I see people with kids do this.

And even though I am posting this on a message board, anonymous posting mediums have been horrible for our collective psyche. It gives a very loud voice to the worst people who bring potentially normal people down with them.

I think it would be all fine, if we never figured out how to put it on a handheld device. I grew up during the birth of the internet, and saw it evolve. When it wasn't on phones, it was treated as a tool, or fun diversion. We weren't on the PC 24/7. It was not life itself. We had shit to do that would pull us away. Not anymore.
