So I keep reading that the people calling for universal HC, and free college, are young, minorities, who are social progressives.

That this is the grass roots of the left.

I was just wondering if anyone had any evidence that this was the case.

I know when I went to the Bernie events during the primaries, what I saw was allot of middle aged professionals. I was expecting to go to these rallies and viewings of videos for his campaign, and see allot of young people. What I saw instead was 30, 40, and 50 year old people driving Subaru's(it's a Washington state thing).

When I went to the caucus for Bernie, I will admit I could look at people and basically tell if they were Clinton or Bernie folks, but the line was between baby boomers, and those who were younger.

I have seen the netroots kind of groups, who do seem to meet this college age minority kind of description, but I can tell you that my union has more members then netroots does. It is mostly middle aged, and white, and closely represents national demographics.

So, I was just hoping someone could enlighten me, and explain a bit further this narrative of the grass roots of the left, being young minorities.

Middle aged professionals are aware that they are not rich as regressive leftist seem to think and would fight for a better deal from the corporate whore government.

Grassroots left wing is a bunch of bitches complaining online who don't vote because they're afraid of going outside and actually learning something.

Well, the WHITE NATIONALS are running on the same platform. They just reverse the racial and sexual groups that are hated. Would you expect to see minorities at a White National rally???

that Ocasio-Cortez chick raised 300 grand mostly from small donations while that Crowley guy raised and spent well over 3 million from multiple corporate sponsors. Thats why she is considered as a grassroots candidate.

Ok, but so because she is young, female, and a minority, does that mean that this is why people voted for her?

Do we have exit polls from her election showing a significant increase in the female, youth, or minority vote?

I cant speak for why people voted for her really, but she takes no corporate money and there seems like a movement of progressives running that are doing the same.

I tend to agree with this explanation.

I seem to be reading a different narrative from the MSM though.

they probably also focused on the fact that she is 28 and worked in a bar(which obviously = lack of intelligence).... but I doubt that they mentioned she has a degree in economics?

They will do the best they can to smear any candidate that threatens the status quo, and she is exactly that(imo of course)

David Duke didn't take corporate money either...

All of the criticism around new candidates taking queues from the Bernie platform comes from the established/corporate left and the established/corporate right in an effort to undermine these campaigns by cornering their supporters into made up demographics.

They're terrified of the potential for a new political party to emerge that embraces policies which address real issues the silent majority faces and that benefit everyone but the ultra rich.

Just wait for the fake candidates to swarm the movement and really make it all look so silly. This is the problem with having a lack of leadership and organization: just like the tea party, the Bernie/real progression movement will be hijacked by corporate interests from the two parties and destroyed from within.

The "Bernie movement" is not a new movement, it's the same communists present the same shit sandwich of Marxism as "Democratic Socialism"
