Lesnar got a title shot after a decision win over Heath Herring that set his record at 2-1.

This is part of the reason why I agree with TS, considering of course Fedor is looking for more than a 1-fight contract as rumored.

Also, it's a good business decision, it would bring back to MMA a lot of the old fans who stopped watching the sport, it would score huge TV deals in Russia and probably Japan and a nice portion of Eastern Europe.

Fedor still has that mystique around him despite the strikeforce losses, but if he loses to Frank Mir for example he's going to lose a lot of that.

Having his return fight be a title fight is halving the profits. They should be separate.

Their going to have to promote Fedor first. That unavenged defeat against Big Foot does not look good considering Big Foot's current position in the UFC and relative ease that it took for Big Foot to beat Fedor.

Debatable.

I also find it odd that so many Fedor fans think giving him an immediate title shot is beneficial for him.

He hasn't fought in more than 3 years, and his last 3 fights (at least) were not against top-tier competition.

Fedor, for all of his past accomplishments, is not an established name or a PPV draw within the UFC. He will need heavy promotion and build up to become draw.

Throwing him in against Werdum, who is not a big draw himself, without any other fights first, could very well result in low buys and a very bad night in the octagon for Fedor.

This doesn't seem to be in his best interest IMO.

His ideal scenario would be given a fight against an established name, but still a realistically winnable fight for co-main event during a card with a major draw fighting in the main event. That would give him the best chance for success and allow him to make a name for himself among recent/casual UFC fans quickly.

Fedor never had a loss in his prime. Extremely dominant.

Ali was at least as dominate in the sixties as Fedor during his prime, with 8 title defenses.

Came back past his prime in the seventies against even stronger competition, and dominated that one too with 10 title defenses.

Now imagine if Fedor won the title again, and defended 10 times. Now we are talking Ali greatness.

Brock was dominating a past World Champ, then was beaten on a controversial fluke that he avenged EASILY.
He didn't just beat Herring. He totally dominated him very badly.
Fedor has only gotten dominated in the last few years. His reighn in pride is questionable.
