Thanks man

Even if he was this sloppy, I think the NSA is the one that popped him unless he says otherwise. The NSA tips off other domestic and foreign agencies and lets others take credit. And they call it "good old fashioned detective work."
Selling drugs online doesn't even move my dial. When people willingly ingest/smoke/snort/inject something into their bodies and know the risks, then it's honestly their own fault what happens.
However, some of the shit is morbid. Looks like you can find tons of things on the deep web that I disagree with (hitmen, child porn, etc.).
I didn't mind checking out TSR but I'm not going anywhere near the other sites.
It wasn't the buying or selling of drugs that bothered me either. It was the prospects of running across child porn and having it forever stored on my hard drive. From what I read, you don't just stumble upon it but I just wasn't THAT interested. A bunch of guys dove in and came back to say there wasn't much to write about.

The deep web is fascinating, though. Makes me wish I would have majored in technology so I could understand more than 10% of WTF they're writing about.
I don't know how much more brutal it could get than Mexican cartel murders, though. And those are easy to find.
I remember reading that thread. I think that thread either directly influenced or was a part of a discussion about big game, sanctioned fights. I remember posters talking about big cats vs. bears and other crazy shit. I would be way out of my comfort level to visit any of those sights, but that was one of the more memorable things I got out of that thread. I never knew that existed. Obviously, there's way worse shit on the deep web than that, but it still was shocking in a way.
Meh. There was no child porn or hired killers on SR. Even weapons weren't allowed.
Anyone who says otherwise never even checked it out to see.
It was mostly drugs, media collections (books, porn, coupons), gambling and some other random shit.
Edit: If you're talking about other dark web sites then ignore my post. I just mentioned it because some people would make such claims about SR as a way to put a black mark upon it.
I want to use economic theory as a means to abolish the use of coercion and agression amongst mankind. Just as slavery has been abolished most everywhere, I believe violence, coercion and all forms of force by one person over another can come to an end.
I was referring to being scared of the Deep Web in general. I heard about drugs and hitmen on the Silk Road but there were many posters like yourself that said "Don't believe the hype".
I'm amazed that after all this time, and all the effort, he was such a can in some ways
Everyone knew this was coming though, with Freedom Hosting going down, and the Javascript exploit getting released. SR was next. The Tor project has been a bit sketchy though, for some reasons that may just be 'conspiracy theories', but I'm not so sure.
Since the Tor network is crumbling, there's some other projects gaining steam. But none are as simple to use as Tor. It'll be interesting to see how much popularity they gain
Tor, and such projects, catch a lot of shit for all the horrible content that can be found on them (and rightfully so). But there is also a lot of good. It's just not... how shall I say... eye-catching
It will be interesting to see how Bitcoin does with this. There's already a well-established site to take it's place (and, well, has for quite some time now), so I don't see Bitcoin plummeting like some others do
If I wanted to speculate, I'd wait for the panic to die down before getting bitcoins. Of course, that may be too late:

Tor is what the user makes of it, nothing more. It's completely amoral, so it aggravates me when the only thing people want to talk about is CP. The creator of freenet put it properly when he said you can find that shit on the "open" internet, but no one is talking about shutting down the internet because of it. They only do so with the non-open internet because of shady-sounding connotations.
Interesting, it dropped and then came back up. Makes sense
And yeah, people don't talk about the good parts - because no one knows exactly where the setups exist, and that right there is the purpose. Some activist in Horrid Country #27 is not going to let everyone in the world know about their setup. Shit gets found, and people die.
And personally I think much of the recent attempts at the dismantling of Tor have a lot more to do with electronic currencies and anonymity than anything else, but hey, that's just me
Anyway, too bad druggies. Time to go back to shady alleys to get your fix.
