A lot of people are confuse by these issues.

Lyoto ran from Dan Henderson. He avoid the action at all costs and took whatever long range attacks he could to steel rounds. I don't care. Dan should be able to deal with this. He is experienced enough but that doesnt change the fact Machida ran from him. I am a fan of both. That fight sucked and both are to blame. Machida far more though. If Dan was so predictable he should have been able to work off of it and do damage.

Carlos Condit ran from Nick Diaz. He refused to engage and sprinted at times to avoid engaging. He would explode with action once every 5 minutes to make nice little highlight and gifs to steel the round.

on the other hand

Stipe Miocic fought someone equally as devastating as Hendo or Diaz and picked apart his style and landed a crazy amount of shots. He didnt back pedal and wait for openings to land a leg kick and back pedal more. He dissected Roy's entire style. He threw the first punch slipped Roy's counter and then countered off of it. He clearly destroyed Nelson making his face look like sloth. This is solid and effective game planning in action. He was ready for everything Nelson was going to try and had counters ready for it. He put in his work and it paid off for him. That turned out to be a mismatch on that night.

Forrest Griffin fought Rampage who he knew was much stronger and had 1 shot KO power. He circled correctly and walked Rampage into Head kicks breaking down his arms so he couldn't throw power shots latter in the fight. He broke down his legs and actually had Rampage in a situation where he didnt throw a single punch for an entire round. He used his striking which wasnt as good to set up his grappling which is at the time his strongest weapon. He did so by using strikes that would pay off in a 5 round fight. Rampage is tough and it was a close fight but Forrest used his skill set to get a win against an opponent he was out gunned agianst. he never turned his back and ran. Although he wasnt able to truly dominate him he did expose parts of Rampages game.

Avoiding action (regardless of how effective) isnt game planning. Its running. It might win you fights but it isnt a game plan or a strategy.

Like you, people confuse running and 360 footwork.

Lyoto and Condit didn't run. Lyoto is a counter striker that always fights that way and Condit was avoiding getting put against the fence. Both also landed more strikes than their opponents.

Stipe full on sprinted the other direction multiples times. I don't have a problem with what he did.

However, by definition he did run....

Machida took the center of the octagon against Dan Henderson and picked him apart.

Why are people ignoring the fact that Machida threw more head strikes than Hendo?

Hendo was just as passive as Machida, it's just Machida was much more effective

The thing is, Dan Henderson is much faster and more dangerous than Roy Nelson imo. Sure Nelson can land that big overhand right, but it is much more easy to avoid than the bombs Hendo are throwing.

Hendo is so fast he nearly clocked Lyoto a few times and we all know how fast Lyoto is. Machida fought a clever fight in the sense that he isn't a brawler he is a technical striker and if he would've brawled with Hendo he would have probably went to sleep. There isn't alot of people who can actually brawl with Hendo and get the best of him, specially in the first round, Fedor was doing fine till he fucked up and got reversed. Anderson is the only one i remember getting the better of Hendo in the pocket.

Shogun although not being the beast he once was before all the surgeries (yes) got blasted in the first rounds and survived purely on his legendary heart and chin and then came back and did great in the later rounds when Hendo started gassing.

Basically brawling with Hendo isn't a good idea these days so fighters are starting to fight him more cautiously, avoiding his big right hand at all cost and i'd say it's a pretty good idea unless you're Anderson Silva.

Machida is a counter striker and he threw more head shots than Hendo and yet people blame him?

I'm convinced majority of people bitching about Machida that fight watched the fight drunk or never rewatched it. Probably never watched it at all.

Machida threw every strike that was notorious for finishing his opponents.

He threw that same right hand that KO'd Bader and rocked Rashad multiple times

He threw that same knee that had Tito in major pain multiple times.

Did the same trip and landed ground in pound in the third which KO'd Thiago Silva

Hell he even threw the crane kick that KO'd Randy Couture against Hendo. Machida fought no differently that fight than he ever did. It's not his fault Hendo lack the movement skills to make it a competitive fight.

Machida took the center of the octagon and outclassed Hendo.

Machida's style is textbook game planning. He uses his movement and ability to get in and get out to pick his shots carefully, dive on an opening, and then get out. I think you are confused.

How much did you lose when Condit beat Diaz ?

right or wrong, thats overwhelmingly how people feel

i agree with you, condit landed more and harder - but people will say what they want to say, loudly

It's actually not. That's how Diaz fans feel, and they are just more vocal then sensible fans.

I'd rather they stood in the centre and just punched each other till one fell, then he stands up till he falls over so many times he cant get back up...
