I saw this movie for the first time recently and thought that it was great. I would highly recommend watching it. How do you feel about the movie?

The opening wedding scene is about 45 minutes too long. Other than that, great movie.

I liked the wedding scene. It almost feels like two different movies.

It's good but it's so damn long. And depressing. I've seen it a few times but have no interest in ever watching it again.

I don't know if it's considered to be Walken's and Deniro's best performances? Ok maybe not Deniro but those scenes were hardcore.

Wedding scene was super long, but the contrast between the end of the night that seemed like would last forever, to the following scene of De Niro blasting that vietcong with a flamethrower was eye widening

I like the wedding, and the first Russian roulette scene. After that it drags like crazy, in true Copolla fashion.

Yes. I agree it's a great war film. The film offers a genuine emotional viewpoint of war and its effects. It gets too unfairly criticized because of its story and character development.

The film is a character study driven by the story of the friends in an industrial Pennsylvania city. The wedding scene is used to build up the characters so you feel an attachment to them. If it was just driven by mindless action that would be like 90% of all war movies.
