Sounds like we are going to save some unnecessary tax dollars here. People need to take responsibly for their own financial decisions and do their own research. Today with the internet and the wealth of information at our fingertips there isn’t any excuse not to be informed.

What do people need protection against? Life is that complicated. Get a mortgage from a reputable lender, invest with someone like Vanguard, don’t live off credit = road to success

Saving tax dollars is literally the last thing Republicans are worried about.

Which regulations? By what mechanism do they raise the price paid by consumers? Is that extra total or monthly?

Oh, and:
https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...n-u-s-mortgage-fraud-settlement-idUSKCN0VC1KO

Considering the massive amounts of mortgage frauds and abuses perpetrated in your industry, do you think consumers would be better off without regulation and prosecution of bad actors? Or are you arguing for stronger regulations (the opposite move of Mulvaney)?

I'm not in the mortgage industry. I'm in the title industry. I'm talking about TRID. We've gone from a simple two page settlement statement to a 5 page closing disclosure followed by a 3 page settlement statement. Banks and title companies all had to switch software. Every transaction now needs a closing protection letter ($75 on a sale). Disclosure of fees like wire, fed ex, etc. needed to be made fixed (even though they aren't fixed) due to the banks disclosures. Well guess what? We're going to charge $80 for closing processing and handling on every deal. You are also doing prelim closing disclosures for every deal. We bumped up our closing fee $50.

And what was this all for? So the consumer could be "better informed at closing". They are still deer in headlights. The 3 day rule doesn't really apply with shitty banks either. They just send out a disclosure that isn't accurate 3 days in advance.

The government is pretty shitty at thinking of practical ways to combat things. A perfect example is how we have to show premiums on the closing disclosure. You don't show the actual fee charged, but you show what the buyer would have paid if they got a loan policy only. Do you think they give a fuck about that? No, all it does is confuse everyone involved. Realtors who have been in the game for years still don't understand it.

The funny thing is that outsiders see the smoke and mirrors and think this is a good thing. I haven't talked to many in the industry that believe the CFPB is doing a great job with TRID. It's been extremely expensive, and the consumer is just as clueless as always.

I am a Republican and I am worried about it. Too much regulation and too many bullshit watchdog groups hinders businesses.

Then get on the horn and tell your Republican representatives to knock it the fuck off.

Let's see what we can conjure from the depths:

Gotham needs you!

Please explain this #maga to us unfortunate doubters.

Rolling back the regulatory power of a seven-year-old agency isn't going to make the sky fall upon our heads.

This agency is just Elizabeth Warren's pet project. Spare me the fake outrage over the idea of a Republican Administration not wanting to fund a Democrats pet project.

Because that's what Equifax and payday lenders need. To be handled with kid gloves.

Can you imagine if the FDA said it wants to act with 'humility' and 'moderation' to companies who sell poisoned food?

Can you imagine if the FDA said it wants to act with 'humility' and 'moderation' to companies who sell poisoned food?
Good companies deserve the right within the free market to sell their products. People really just need to watch the food they eat, and not rely upon the government to regulate things like the toxicity of your burgers. It's all the consumer's fault. Am I MAGimping well?

The sweet smell of oligarchy.....

Lol why would a government agency need to act with humility?

Well, does the government go too far now and then?

I do not disagree, but I would imagine the right believes the regulations go to far as do the "deep state" bureaucrats.

Before wave after wave of partisans rush to wave a flag at me so I might be woke, please keep in mind that is just what I have read and everyone refrain from throwing virtual tomatoes.

The elites behind both parties do not want a strong CPB, so you hear nothing about this on the news

Geez, I don't know about you, but this is just the sort of tough talk I want from an agency created to protect you and me from the effects of predatory financial practices.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was created after the financial crisis to protect Americans from being ripped off by financial firms.

Hooray! BTFO, Consumers!

Though not surprising, definitely disappointing. I was at least hoping some fucking entity would limit the largest banks from running up their leverage again, which sadly has also happened.

But even with alllll of that, the least they could do if they were going to unshackle the large institutions, is simultaneously unshackle the little guy while they are at it. At least then David could fight Goliath, mismatch though it is.

Long Rant- But here goes-----------

I recently had a huge issue with Progressive Insurance and their henchmen. We had our car insurance with them, and after an awful claim experience due to Hurricane Irma, we decided to cancel our policy and go elsewhere. I notified them in late October that I had paid the policy through the end of November, and would switch December 1. Then on 11/29, I provided them the Geico certification. They acknowledged receipt and Thanked me.

Then in early January, I got a call from Progressive saying I owed them $370 for 2 weeks of insurance from Dec 1 to Dec 15 (I have very high liability limits coverage due to my business). I told them they did not insure me during that time, then I forwarded them all of the emails and payments, going back to October, along with all their acknowledgments. They said too bad I still had to pay. I told them to go fuck themselves. They threatened collection agent- I said knock yourself out.

Collection agent hammers me relentlessly for 2 weeks. I forward them all the same shit I sent progressive. They said too bad, Progressive says I still have to pay, and now it's closer to $500 due to their fees. My response:

They threatened to contact my employer and attempt to garnish wages (which I think you actually need a court order for). I said good luck- self employed beeyatch. Finally, after 2 weeks of non stop harassment, they call offering to 'settle' the matter for $250, otherwise they will have to begin litigation. So naturally I crafted a wordy reply:

Well last week I heard from the attorney. We are up to $840 now in demanded fees. And I am biting down on my mouthpiece before heading out for another round.

You better hope your case doesn't end up before the Supreme Court, because Judge Neil Gorsuch will be there to take a genteel, blue-blooded power shit in your mouth.

The elites behind both parties do not want a strong CPB, so you hear nothing about this on the news

Not all news sources.

I found this story on the top of NPR today, and that is what I linked to in the OP. You know, NPR, that public radio shit that the GOP wants so badly to defund. Hmm... wonder why...

How would this have prevented my social from being lost by someone like....... Equifax.

Both sides are the same. The side that introduced the agency, funded it and supported it are the same as the side defunding it and watering down any action they might look to take.

Exactly
The
Same.

(so vote republican)

You should have required a data security audit be provided to you before allowing any information go to them (and of course avoid any company that uses them). Good luck.

Trump administration's consumer protection bureau drops lawsuit into lender alleged to charge 950% interest

If you've never heard of Golden Valley Lending, they were being accused of "deceptive practices" as well as using Native American land to skirt state laws. There was an almost identical case recently, where convictions were found (link below).
