Diego Sanchez Decision Leads to Stunning Upset Comeback Win While Down 2-0 in Third Round

Fans See Blood; Sanchez Sees Win

Diego Sanchez def. Michel Pereira DQ (illegal knee) 3 3:09

    What The Hell Just Happened?

Sanchez is stalking “Demolidor” down, but Pereira throws several crushing knees that make Sanchez fall over.

As Sanchez falls to his knees, Pereira cracks him in the head with an illegal knee.

Herzog rushes in to stop the action for a moment. The knee busted Sanchez’ head wide open. Blood is pouring out of Sanchez’ forehead, and the doctor is trying to figure out what to do. Herzog allows Sanchez to recover, and deducts one point from Pereira, but Sanchez claims that he cannot see.

Sanchez asks Herzog what the result would be given on the stoppage, and upon learning it would be a disqualification, Sanchez says he cannot continue.

Unbelievable. As it was an illegal knee that caused the stoppage, Pereira will indeed be disqualified. This is the first event in UFC history where multiple fights have ended by DQ. Truly a bizarre end to a totally bizarre fight.

No and I sincerely wish Anthony Lionheart had done the same to Jones.

It was a bit surprising seeing Diego not only fight like that but take an out as well.

    Where its hawt
    depends on his mind set.

if he did it for a win bonus and is just trying to feed his family, then no I'm not mad at it.

if he did it because he actually thinks this win is going to springboard him into a win streak/titleshot etc. yes he should be shamed and forced to retire. hes lost his marbles.

im sorry but whoever agrees with Diego on this one should not be discussing fights. pussy move. I dont see how you can aprove it, specially considering (i) the had A CUT and (ii) how the fight was going prior to that.... the fact he had "all the right" doesnt make it look good.

That was disgraceful. Yes, the knee was big, but he clearly sought for a way out. That was cowardly and shitty. Sanchez was not in that fight. He looked atrocious and did not deserve to win.

    I hope he gets cut.

It wasn’t honorable...he took the easy way out and knew he could still see. He has or had way more heart than that

How do you lose respect for a 38 year old man (75 in MMA years) who beat a Jesus Juice Brazilian 26 years old with a DQ Victory when he was supposed to be being FED to this up and comer?

    LOL it's Glorious.

Maybe if this were one of his first 10 fights or 10 years in the game, but not now.
this fight had no business being in the 3rd round in the first place and he was the victim of a devastating illegal strike. Why would he go on? To reward his opponent? And the dude could use the win money. I have more respect for him now than when he walked into the octagon.,
