We are seeing this utilized more than ever in MMA right now, with the latest example being Lawler/RDA and the furthest back i can think of being Bendo/Diaz where it was used so prominently. Why dont we see this more and why is it so dominant as of late?

Personally i dont know how i feel about it, i definitely dont think it should be illegal like i feel the oblique kick should, but you almost ABSOLUTELY have to check these or 3-4 will fuck your shit up whereas your average kicks to the thigh wont.

Thoughts?

How can you forget about Barboza?
You need to go back and watch all of his fights, especially against Pettis and Melendez.

Is checking kicks hard?

Serious question....Why dont fighters do it more often
With good set up, it is hard to check kicks. The lower the kick, the harder to check.

If I throw a jab, it will take your attention, but I could be throwing the jab to kick you in the calf, because it seems like this kick is more efficient than a jab, in terms of causing damage.

Don't know if they should be illegal but those low kicks certainly can do some damage. Krause fucked up Jamie Varner's ankle so bad the fight was stopped.

Fighters will adapt to it. I don't recall the last technique to receive a thread, but they always crop up now and again

How do you check a leg kick to the calf if you can’t raise your knee to check

If you use your foot your ankle might get jacked up like Jamie V

I just hope it doesn't lead to some nasty injuries.

I mean i feel like it has already, maybe no broken ankles, torn ligaments, etc. but thats a pretty sensitive area i cant imagine having a good kickers shin slam into it once let alone multiple times over the course of a fight
