Why does everyone make fun of the BMF belt?

To be a baddest MF, you have to be a stand and bang fighter. You must not panic wrestle as your face is being pummeled with fists, kicks, and elbows. It takes a legit savage to stand and trade, knowing full well they could avoid damage, pain, and possible lifelong health issues if they relied more on clinching, grappling, and wrestling.

It is a LEGIT belt and no matter how much people make fun of it, BMFers put on the most entertaining fights. They are must see.

I'm so glad they get PPV points and they deserve it.

How does it take away?

Obviously the better overall fighter holds the original belt. They are respected as the better fighter and no one can argue otherwise.

However, standing and trading is the more entertaining and dangerous style and therefore, it should be respected as such.

It really has nothing to do with the actual championship belt.

I mean, it's obviously not "legit". To be legit, there would have to be some sort of criteria as to how you earn a chance to fight for it, how it's defended, what weight class it exists, in, etc etc. Rather than just arbitrarily throwing a belt on the line.

Having said, it really doesn't bother me or anything. Dustin/Gaethje is a phenomenal fight regardless, and I'd watch that any day of the week. I of course respect the shit out of those two fighters, fake belt or no fake belt. It's just not really a factor for anything in my mind.

It’s arbitrary and meaningless in every way and even serious pro fighters acknowledge that. A fighter doesn’t need a BMF belt to prove what kind of fighter he is. The only purpose it serves is to fill a card that’s missing a title fight main event. It also provides more marketing to the fighters that have been arbitrarily chosen to fight for it. It doesn’t do anything that existing awards and bonuses don’t already do. TS you’re probably joking but I felt compelled to reply.

And it does more than bonuses do; according to Gaethje, the BMF champion gets PPV points.

I've already stated why I think it's legit; it is fought for by fighters that could take opponents down, but stand and bang to entertain the fans. Jorge did at one point pummel Nate on the ground, but I think most would agree Jorge is a just bleed fighter.

While the "Badass Mother Fucker" belt certainly has its merits and adds much needed validity to the UFC name, I am waiting for the new generation "The Straight Bussin Championship Belt, For Real, For Real, No Cap" belt. This will add even more legitimacy to the organization and martial arts. This is the pinnacle that the UFC should strive to achieve.
