Go look up mainstream in the dictionary. None of these peanut-making fat guys are tested against elite athletic talent. The only reason big guys would compete in strongmen events is simple: not athletic enough to make it in the mainstream sports.

NFL players would have die or become permanently crippled if they tried to compete in Strongman. Only a tiny amount of population has strength potential to compete in Strongman.

Understood, and Tennis and Golf are like that, with a global following. However, really up through Tyson-Holyfield, often the most famous people in the world were HW boxers. Only musicians were maybe more so. Now, it's safe to say the soccer stars are number 1.

In terms of household names who are active in the sport, NASCAR, golf, and tennis have about a half-dozen or so each, boxing gas 2-3, and mma has Ronda.

NASCAR? Seriously? No one outside USA could name you a single driver ever. Formula One is much bigger than NASCAR.

smh, why are youth so ignorant of history. Boxing was once bigger than every other sport in America. 70 million+ tuned into Louis vs Schmeling, back when America had a population of ~130 million. That dwarfs todays Super Bowl numbers.

Great post, HW boxing was king for a long time. Ali was the most famous person in the world and the highest paid athlete ever until Jordan. Part of it came down to media, now the world is more media conscious and soccer/futbol is king. Hell, weren't there only three TV stations until the mid 70's? People used to go to movie theatres to watch boxing simulcasts, before cable and pay per view.
