The best thing for this sport would have been if catch wrestlers instead of BJJ practitioners had laid the foundation for the sport. You'd see pinfalls count as a way to win which would eliminate guys lying on their backs while wrapping their thighs around the man on top of them and squeezing his body against their bodies as closely as possible. I don't want to see that and most people don't. It's the single biggest reason this sport hasn't become more popular than it has. Watching that makes most people feel uncomfortable and it also bores them. Boring the average sports fan while also disgusting him is not a great business strategy. Wrestling on the other hand has been part of civilization for thousands of years and part of the United States for well over a hundred years. Add striking to the submissions and pinfalls of catch wrestling and you'd have an absolutely great sport with far broader appeal to the mainstream than today's MMA.

It's no coincidence that Ronda Rousey is now the sport's most popular athletes and she never lays in the guard. Her fights are full of action and there is never "lay and pray" or "wall and stall." It's not coincidence that people just happen to love her style so much. Her style gets rid of the worst, most boring aspects of today's MMA.

i didnt read. but the best thing for the sport is Ronda and Fedor offspring. it has to be done

If you want falls, watch amateur wrestling. Or pro wrestling.

Are you seriously recommending banning triangle chokes as a submission manuever just because the other guy is on his back?

Pinfalls. Lol.

Nope. Mma evolved the right way at the right time. ITs only now under 2015 dana that its starting to have problems.

You can't be this dumb.

Obviously you are dumb enough to think that BJJ is a sport more entrenched in the American culture set than wrestling, even though millions of people over the years have participated in high school and college wrestling where pinfalls are a way to win the contest. You add catch submission holds to that along with striking, and you have the blueprint for the next huge sport in not only America but the world. If the UFC doesn't do it, some other promotion will. That would be the ideal situation for you because while most people will be watching legitimate catch wrestling with legal striking, you can still watch men dry hump each other on UFC programming, until it goes out of business of course. But hey, at least you'll have your memories.

You said pro wrestling was a legitimate sport at some point in time. End thread.

You have 3k+ posts and you're a member since 2005 and you have a problem with bjj? Ridiculous!

No testing and more peds.

American wrestling rules and all, but I don't see 50 million wrestling gyms popping up around Houston like BJJ schools have.
Lol at your "obviously you are dumb enough" comment.

Hahahahahahah holy purple cow...so many funny threads/posts on Sherdog today.

TS, how do you breathe? You must have an aparatus...God bless you, you poor man. You're very funny however, I'll give you that.

If BJJ makes you uncomfortable, you have serious mental health issues or are a very insecure person. Go and train some BJJ and then get back to me, you'll quickly change your mind.

1- this is a sport that is supposed to be as simialar to real fighting as possible. Taking away a guy's energy and breath and then submitting cranking his limbs, sounds alot more realistic than holding him for a few seconds and calling it a win.
Example, Jon Jones's tko over Shougn was setup thorugh a long lay and pray, which won him the title. Nowhe's considered one of the greatest fighters alive. Don't be ignorant.

2- So the only reason you have for your claim is being homophobic towards a sport?
and you suggest a derevative of wresling?

3- Pro wresling was never real, it's as scripted and fake as movies, and always has been ever since it first started back in australia early 20th century.

What's next TS? Have Michael Bay set up explosion scenes in golf tournaments ? LOL you fucking retard. How do people like you even operate a keyboard?!
