So im a huge starcraft fan. i played starcraft 1 for 10 years and ive been playing starcraft 2 since it came out.

starcraft is easily the best rts game ever made.

as a kid i grew up with command and conquer and warcraft, and rts games were always big features in the newest gaming magazines.

starcraft changed the game in 1998, it was revolutionary when it came out and really paved the way for online rts games.

its fast paced and extremely difficult to master.

starcraft is huge in korea where its considered a sport and pro gamers can make millions of dollars. they even have dedicated starcraft tv channels.

the newsest starcraft is legacy of the void, which is standalone and does not require the other sc2 games to play. its also pretty cheap now, maybe like 27$ canadian on cdkeys.com.

the game is difficult to get good at. only 4% of players will reach masters and only the top 200 in 1v1 will ever see grandmaster ranks.

but, the revamped ladder system makes sure to match you with other players at your skill level, so you will never really be badly outmatched and you can learn at your own pace.

if you like strategy games you should love starcraft. blizzard is known for making some of the best, most popular, and most well balanced games ever.

quit wasting time and go buy it!

How was it revolutionary? It was just another RTS. A good one, but it didn't do anything new. Honestly, those base building RTS games are dated now anyways and I can't play them anymore.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Before starcraft there were no paid tournament or leagues worth mentioning. Starcraft was like the pioneer for esports. As for the quality for the time there were NOT a single rts better than starcraft 1. The game was hella fun and really balanced that's why it's still played. SC2 is not as balanced IMO but still fun game.

I'm playing! Love this game. Total Biscuit just had a fantastic tournament yesterday, vods should start going up on Youtube today.

So the game itself wasn't revolutionary is what I'm hearing, just popular. Seriously the game itself didn't do anything different

SC2 was the first game made with the intention of being an esport. It was mostly outside of the gameplay though.

It was revolutionary in my eyes, as a guy whos played rts games since I was a little kid. It came out just as the internet was becoming more popular, so online gaming was still in its infancy.
It was the first time a game was really well made and balanced for online RTS gameplay IMO.

The game itself was a like WOW!! when it came out, it was unbelievable. Anyone who played RTS games knew how good it was. Command and Conquer Red Alert was the gold standard until that point, and Starcraft blew it out of the water. The game became immensely popular because of how good it was. It started having all sorts of ladders, and battle.net changed the game too with their online system. Battle.net made socialising easy and teams started popping up everywhere, making the game even more competitive and leading the way to e-sports that have became so popular.

Warcraft II was the only RTS I ever got into. Micromanagement is exhausting to me.

Six years ago i would watch nearly every video Husky posted on YouTube. When Twitch became popular the Starcraft event organizers shit the bed. Requiring people to subscribe to their Starcraft2 streams to view in high quality their live tournaments.

As a player i hate the amount of micromanagement. As an eSports viewer they present some greatly entertaining games. Now that Blizzard has basically pulled a Riot the scene is still fading into darkness. With their Blizzcon tournament basically becoming Blizzards TI. Whos success hinges on them broadcasting it live on Twitch now.

Wait... You're trying to tell me that Koreans like StarCraft?! Get outta here
