The best case scenario is that Jon Jones wins

I can't believe how many haters repeated so much this narrative, that a lie became the truth to them...
Jon WANTED to move to HW. Matter of fact, he wanted to float between them.
Dana denied his wish, so he stayed at LHW.
Once Conor happened and all hell broke loose, Jon got back in his wish and bulked up.
Yes, he took long. But wasn't it EXACTLY what GSP nuthuggers were defending that GSP would have to do to bulk up to fight the Spider? GSP himself said that! (that in order to bulk up properly, he would need one or two years to do it properly)... so why now this is such an unacceptable time table? Because it is Jon?

Nah.
Jon Was the goddamned LHW GOAT and if he wins a few more, maybe Full GOAT!
Love him or hate him! What he accomplished (so far) is nothing short of amazing, and if you truly like this sport, you should feel honored just to have lived and witnessed this guy fight!!

Haha GSP did the same as he waited until Bisping was champ & he didn't even try defending the belt.

Everyone has given him shit for that apart from his fans but even they are aware, its so damn obvious.

By "Don't mean anything", are you implying Jones is a paper champion?

He's the greatest fighter of all time and would be the favourite against anyone in the division <45>

Id rather watch him fight 6 midgets, at least it would be entertaining.

Indeed he did that. Do you blame him?
Given a chance, all of us would do the same. So I don't blame him for doing that. I blame the UFC for allowing this shit to happen! They go for the quick profit at the expense of our sport! But the worst part, is us as fans! We are so fucking divided, that when it is with their favorite fighters, they defend him while attacking those they don't like for the exact same thing.

Hell, I don't give shit to Lesnar for fighting for the belt on his 4th professional fight! Why wouldn't he accept it? His job is to get the best deal for himself and his family!
It's the UFC that cheapens our product by allowing this to happen.

IMHO, it is a VERY dangerous road to play!
I mean this is WWE shit, not the sport of MMA.
Popularity should have absolutely no bearing in rankings and title shots.

Look, I am NOT a Jon Jones (the person) fan. But I appreciate his skills inside the cage; and whether haters want it or not, he is one of the greatest to grace this very young sport!

All I am saying is that ALL those same haters were laughing for the past years claiming Jon would never step another foot inside the octagon. That he lost it. That he was afraid!
And when he announced he was moving up, people were already claiming he would fight Ngannou to AVOID Gane! Then he run from Francis and Gane is a Can.... and they still try to find any other asinine reason to shit on him!

I get people don't have to like him! But fuck, since when does lying about someone not considered crossing the line? Where does the lying ends?
People need to have some shame! Spreading lies about ANY fighter just because you dislike them is not just wrong, proves YOU are part of the problem! Do better!

...is it too much to ask?

You claim he wanted to float between the two divisions of LHW and HW. But when he finally "got back in his wish" as you put it, what he ends up doing is vacating the LHW title and going on a regimen for several years to turn his body into something that won't be able to get back down to LHW easily again.

You also claim "once Conor happened and all hell broke loose" Jon got his wish. Hell seems to take a long time to break loose then. It's almost 4 years from the time Conor turned champ-champ until Jon relinquishes his LHW title — something he could well have held onto if he truly wanted to benefit from Conor's precedents of belt-squatting! — and six and half before he deigns to fight at HW.

Look, I'm not lambasting him for taking a long time to change divisions. I'll even argue that he's doing it at a time of life and career that's appropriate. What I DO mind is the goddam talk about it he spewed for all that while, all the insinuations that it would be "soon" for a DECADE. And I mind really, really sloppy logic from people trying to defend him.
Please read my sloppy defense above ;)

I think its more likely Stipe carries on fighting if he wins, if he beats Jones thats probably a sign his form is still relatively strong and he already fought Francis twice, I don't think he'd be afraid of Sergei.

I think most are overrating Pav and Aspinall. Now I’m not saying they’re bad fighters at all BUT who have they beaten that ACTUALLY makes you think they have something for Jones? He (rightfully so) would be decent size favourite over both.

Best case scenario is that Jon wins and then defends 3x against top contenders. He'll then be the LHW GOAT, the most accomplished UFC HW champ, and have a very, very solid claim to being the GOAT.

For a number of reasons... I don't think this will happen. He'll still get the win over Stipe though...

I mean the UFC & Jon are saying Francis ran from him....

Where do all the lies end?

There's no real good outcome. Both gonna retire most likely no matter what the result lol.

Well, that's the thing!
WE (as fans of this sport) should know better!
The timeline does not work for their lines!
Jon had already announced he would move up BEFORE the novel with Francis ended! It's not his fault the UFC almost pushed Francis out!
And Francis did what was best for him! He SHOULD have left unless he got what he wanted in his new contract!
He did not run from anyone!

So again, I highly disagree with this narrative we allow the UFC to create! And we should know better than to do this to a fighter! THEY are the ones you pay to watch fight! Why would you support the greed of owners over what's right for an athlete????

Bingo. Jones has been pretty clear: he wanted to have two fights and then retire: Gane and Stipe. Jones openly said that Gane was "the most incomplete" HW at the top of the division. And Stipe is 42, hasn't won a fight in more than 3 years, and literally has a full-time job now.

Personally, I think Aspinall is the best HW on the planet. But no part of me thinks Jones will stick around and find out.

In fairness to Jones, he fought every challenger in his division for a full decade, and he generally made it look easy. So perhaps he's "earned" the right to cherry pick opponents. But I don't consider him to be a legitimate HW champion. He very clearly waited until the true HW champion left (after 10 years talking about moving up to HW), then hand-selected favorable matchups.

I really dislike Jones but one thing is sure is he's very smart about his career. Both in the cage and in chosing the right fights at the right time. And that is a skill too.

Pretty sure he beats Stipe without too much difficulty and then retires and enjoys life.

Next title fight will be Pavlovich vs Aspinall. Maybe they'll book Gane vs someone on the same card for #1 contender and that's it.

He should just retire right now
Stipe fight ads - to his legacy
Worst Case Ontario

Best case scenario: Jones gets brutally KO’d and says goodbye to his “legacy”

Win or lose Jones sticking around is good for mma.

he’s a scumbag of a human but a great fighter and a huge draw.

I just want him to stick around long enough that someone gets a legit win over him. My worry is I won't ever see that . Jones could possibly be the most intelligent man in the fight game ( he is an idiot in every other area it appears ) he is likely to know before anyone else when his time is coming to an end and will stop fighting way ahead of time.

I hate Jon Jones but the best case scenario for fans is that he wins and sticks around to fight a couple of these other guys like Pavlovich and Aspinall. Although both have talked about retirement after this fight, we know that Stipe is retiring no matter what, and as much as I want to see him turn the lights out on Jones, there is a better possibility of Jones changing his mind about a couple more fights, especially as he starts to believe in his own hyped up prowess at HW. This means there will be continuity in the division and hopefully one of these other guys can earn the belt, move the division into the future, and retire Jones at the same time.
Nah. I wanna see Jones win and retire as the best. That’s the only ending I want
