If Khabib wins than he is an ilegitimate champion. Khabib beating a 145er who took the fight on 6 days notice, doesn't qualify someone as the lightweight champion.

But if Max beats Khabib, he would be ending the undefeated streak of one of the most dangeroud, feared, and top ranked LW fighters in the world.

The chance of Max winning is the only thing that is intriguing about this fight

Yeah thats not how it works.

It's technically not "legitimate" either way. But I'm confident enough in Khabib being the best LW that I'm okay with it... and if Max somehow pulls off the W, then he beat the guy who I was confident was the best LW, so I'm okay with that too...

This is how I've rationalized it in my head at least.

The champ and interim champ are both not fighting..this is more of a old school "super" fight if anything

Who cares? The belt means nothing in today's UFC.

So you're saying not fighting or pulling out of the fight qualifies someone more than beating the 145 pound champion? Or should the belt just be vacated? Either way, dubs minimum for stupidity

Well the current Champ isn't fighting, and the Interm Champ is kicking steel pipes, and pulling out. So it's legit either way who ever wins.

The belt isn't legitimate in the first place, but it would hold more "power" and "meaning' if Max won, if that makes any sense

You're confusing legitimate champion with lineal champion (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lineal_championship) I think. Neither fighter can become the lineal champion but both can become the legitimate champion as Conor hasn't defended in over a year so can be rightfully stripped, making this fight a fight for the true championship.

Edit: Fuck forgot Tony was interim champion, yeah the whole situation is a giant clusterfuck.

I understand this. But it's still not completely "true" in my eyes, because the second Conor is stripped, the owner of the interim belt should be promoted to champ. That would make Tony the champ, with Khabib/Max fighting for the interim belt. Then unify for the true champ once Tony is healthy.

Anyways, this is all semantics and doesn't really matter in the end. I'm still hyped for the fight.

You make a good point, If Khabib wins he was suppose to if Max wins he will be Max McGregor lol, his popularity I mean

Belts by themselves have always been bullshit.

Winning streaks, multiple defences, winning even on an off night... Consistency is what makes a champ legit.
