We all remember how hyped Ronda was for her 8 armbar wins in a row, but how many of you have heard of this guy?

GIVA "THE ARM COLLECTOR" SANTANA

10 armbar wins in a row. 18-3 overall MMA record. Last found in 2013 so his time is done, but does anyone know why he never made it to the UFC?

Kinda remember this guy---- won a plethora of bjj world championships but who knows why he never was signed by UFC....maybe one dimensional (I don't know just speculating)- again , who knows

Book him vs Paul harris

I believe he is still teaching and running his BJJ gym in Irvine, California.

Went to Bellator first, won some, lost some, retired. Not all guys get to fight in the UFC, regardless of their skill.

Is normal.

He went 2-2 in Bellator true, but I think that was more to do with him being in his 40s at that point rather than lack of skill

yea his BJJ accomplishments make him look like he might be a top 5 best pure BJJ player in the history of the sport.

copy paste from wiki

"Giva Santana has been training Brazilian jiu-jitsu for 25 years and is a fourth degree black belt under Lotus Club from São Paulo, Brazil. Santana has conquered numerous prestigious titles in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu including the Pan American Championship, World No Gi Championship, Masters World Championship, and the World Cup Championship (among others). He was awarded his black belt from Master Moises Muradi on January 23, 1999."

I thought you were talking about my boy for a sec.

Santana also applied for The Ultimate Fighter (TUF), an MMA reality show where the winner conquers a contract with the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). Although Giva showed more then enough talent to participate, the producers of the show found him not to be extroverted enough to make good TV and didn’t sign Givanildo.

what a shame. there's more here

Yea. I remember watching him fighting on Showtime and in Bellator.

His name should have been 'Take-a' not 'Giva'

I believe I heard McCall bring up his name multiple times on Rogan's podcast.

Remember Sassangle?

Damn, was thinking about that dude the other day. Had to Google him; 14-2 record, last fight was in Bellator, in 2013, he won via toe hold...and nothing since, he's only 29, he's still active on Twitter. All I got.

I really thought this was going to be a Tobikan Judan thread. :(

See what showbiz mentality does to the sport? This is why I hate Sonnen and his fans.
