It worked, because the person on the receiving end did not drill to counter/defend it, froze in confusion and panic wrestled.

Love Askren, he's funny and his wrestling is amazing to watch, but he's going to get hit with a lot more nasty things in the future, since he's still in denial about the holes in his game and blatantly refuses to change anything about his training. Regardless of how good of a wrestler you are, you simply cannot NOT have at least half-decent striking defense at this level of competition.

Otherwise, things like these



are going to be child's play compared to what elite fighters can land against someone who cannot defend himself well.

The Flying knee is one of the most telegraphed strikes, but Ben was conditioned to use his go to move as a reflex and he was exploited. The flying knee Arlovski threw was spontaneous, making it even harder to read. Luckily Fedors reaction is to throw bombs and short circuit a muthafucka lol

his whole style was get in there and fuck the guy up so bad his ancestors will cry in heaven. Didnt matter how big either. Arlo got overexcited and flew into his destiny.

The amusing part of that counter was that Fedor said that he thought Arlovski was doing a different technique and he had drilled that counter for that. He didn't anticipate a flying knee, but it worked out anyway, or probably even better as Arlovski got sloppy.
