This article is entirely too long-winded and I'm only gonna post the link above. But apparently there's a 6 hour workday experiment in Sweden, the UK and a few other European countries that's been going on for over a year, and it's showing productivity does increase. Apparently it's working. It also reduces the time off employees are taking. What do you think, would this work in the US? I have my doubts, personally.

In the field I work in it won't. The legal field with the amount of Criminal, Civil, Domestic, Dependencies, and Juvenile cases that can get heard in a given day we need 8 hours.

As an example, my county is pretty small but we can have Criminal Motions calendars (Asking for lower bail, pleading guilty, state asking for higher bail type motions) with upwards of 80 cases on the calendar. Then say, the calendar starts at 830 maybe 10-15 cases might get stricken meaning they don't need to be heard as the parties came to an agreement and don't need to argue in front of a judge so we're down to say 70 cases. I WILL STILL BE IN THE COURTROOM, as a clerk, from 8:30 when we start in the morning till 1PM.

Shit like that a 6 hour work day won't work.

Most people will probably scoff at the idea, but I think it could work. I mean you're only realistically getting 6 hours of actual work from people anyways. It would just cut down on the amount of time people are browsing Sherdog on the company dime.

Most people will think that even though it works in other Western, developed countries, it can NEVER work here because...reasons.

I cook 10-12 hours a day, and i don't see how i could get any of that done in 6.

I know in my field no matter if the work day is supposed to be 6, 8, 10 hours or whatever, if we have work we are there 12 hours a day. So I don't think it would work. but wouldn't mind getting 6 hours of overtime pay every day either

My union prefers if we don't work overtime. Fucking annoying.

I'd rather work 4 10s.. or if absolutely needed, 8 hour days with 3 day weekends.

I'd much rather have an extra day off instead of leaving 2 hours earlier.

But im also happy with what I'm paid every 2 weeks. I'd probably choose to work the same amount and not take a paycut.

The people saying "well I can't see how this would work in my profession" ...does your profession not exist in those countries in Europe that have successfully implemented this?

And there's the problem.

6 hour work days could work for a lot of office jobs, where productivity actually increases because of the shortened day. But service industry workers like Da Speeit simply can't get the work done in shorter time or they simply need to be in the restaurant/store/etc. because of the hours of operation. And the US is a heavy service economy.

And certain professional type jobs are just too demanding (doctors, lawyers, accountants, etc.).

That would be nice. I also like the suggestion of a 3 day weekend as an alternative.

More free time would be great whichever way.

I'm non union but it's the same way for us. They let you get some OT but after a certain amount they'll start cutting you back. After a certain amount you basically start losing it all in taxes, too

Yeah I did that setup for a long time and it does work out pretty well. It's probably the best schedule I've worked, overall

I'm pretty sure they've only tried it with a few select professions over there. Like retirement center nurses and office workers

Just let white people pay for it all and non muslims.

Is that War Room?

Not enough time in my field (construction) to get anything done. 8 hours can seem too short sometimes when there's a lot to do. And I'd rather work four tens and get a third day off than 5 6's. Also, there are different attitudes towards work in different countries. USA has been a more pro work grinding type. Unfortunately that seems to be changing with my generation. Although most of the hillbilly rednecks I work with love to work long days get shit done and then slam some beers

I get paid monthly, so it makes no difference for me. I work around that most days anyway, but sometimes I cannot help but have to work 10-12 hour days.

seriously?
Swear it. I am an independent contractor, and that's the way the like to do it for some reason. I go through a vendor service who gets paid from MS yearly. It's weird. It's pretty awesome because I get a months pay up front.
