Everyone knew GSP was coming back to fight Bisping because it was an easy opportunity to get the MW belt and we all knew that he had no plans to defend it.

GSP denied it repeatedly saying he would defend the MW belt if he wins it and saying it was in his contract that he had to defend the belt - blah blah blah.

Then he beats Bisping and shortly after says he has ulcerative colitis so he can’t defend the belt. Whittaker was up next.

Y’all consider that an “official” duck by GSP? I do.

i don't consider gsp a two-weight champ. one fight beating the champion doesn't make you a champion to me. you have to fight contenders before and then fight the champion to become a true champion. i mean damn, even at least one contender before lol.

it's all marketing by the ufc. and gsp knew it. he knew that one win over bisping would give him that title. he didn't want to compete. he simply wanted the title.

I'm definitely not one to buy into a fighter "ducking" anyone. It's a dumb idea to me and only makes sense to people who have no clue about world class fighter's BUT I will say this, GSP's comeback was very well calculated. At the end of the day he did what he wanted to and went out on top, again.

Nobody cares if you think he’s a duck or not. Your opinion means jack shit, dude.

Forget Whitaker. He ducked Silva and fought a missing eye bisping. Then ducked mw div after years ducking Hendricks. A Hendricks that pummeled him into retirement.

Sheer idiocy.

Beating the champion means you become the champion. It's a matter of record and isn't even debatable.

You're confusing being a long-standing Champion with simply "becoming" Champion by beating the champion.

You can't make up your own definitions.

GSP became the Champion, and the record will forever show that he was Champion, despite whatever mental masturbation calisthenics you wish to do about it.

wrong.

i guarantee you that lots of fighters from other weightclasses could defeat other champions from different weightclasses. it's simply math. if given the opportunity, that can certainly take place.

look what jon jones just did. he beat gane to become the heavyweight champion. did he fight any contenders? no. could he lose to certain current heavyweight contenders? well, we don't know. why? because he hasn't fought any of them. you have to fight competition before you should be allowed to fight for the belt. why have contenders, if they don't have the chance to fight for the belt?

do you understand my logic, now?

Can you blame him? When he won the title it was obvious he was gonna retire. If he kept going he would have ended up like Anderson Silva circa 2013-2020. Mind you GSP was under contract till 2022

So much stupid in your post. Lmao

The point that the other dude was making was it you BEAT the champion, regardless of working your way through other contenders or not, you BECOME champion of said division.

Do you understand that logic or are you so bitter what GSP did, you’re going to rebuttal with more nonsense? Go ahead, I’ll wait. . .

These dorks forgot just how good GSP was. GSP in his prime smokes Usman and anyone else in the division.
He’s just mad that Usman couldn’t do what GSP did and go out on top.

It’s a tough pill to swallow

Yup. Absolutely. Rogan saying Masvidal is a better fighter is a joke. George could have fought him two years ago and it would have been 50-45

I have a BA in Philosophy, of which "logic" is a major component.

Your musings are the exact opposite of logic — and are the very "mental masturbation" I was talking about. Here is how logic works:
  1. To become the Champion, a fighter has to beat the Champion in a Championship Title Fight;
  2. The fight between Michael Bisping and Georges St. Pierre was a Championship Title Fight;
  3. Georges St. Pierre won that fight
  • THEREFORE: Georges St. Pierre became Champion
That's how logic works. No nuances, it's cut and dry.

Again, there's nothing to debate.

what's stupid about it? you're the one sounding idiotic. you clearly didn't understand my last post. i could not have said it any clearer.

okay, for you morons who don't understand that not all fighters are the same, let me break it down for you who are not quite as bright.

"styles make fights". have any of you heard of that term? i would hope so. certain fighters are more well adapted to beat certain fighters. some are better on the ground, some are better at the stand-up, etc. the whole point of going through contenders, is that you face both, and the better fighter gets the chance to fight for the belt.

so let's say the current champ of a division only beat one fighter, and let's say it was a more stand-up guy, right? did that figthter in that division fight anyone who is incredibly well on the ground? well, obviously not, because he only needed one fight to become champion. hence, he didn't need to prove himself to someone who is incredibly well on the ground. get it?

you should have to, "go through the gauntlet", to prove that you're the true champ of the division. jumping over other fighters, and beating the current champion just because you style is better than the champ, does not make you the champ. get it?

if you knuckleheads don't understand this at this point, then i have nothing else to say haha.
